As head of the office, you will lead, in close collaboration with the National Security Advisor, the work of analyzing, directing, and coordinating issues related to national security and defense at the Government Offices. You will also lead the work of building up the office, recruiting the right expertise, and implementing work methods and routines.
The work is characterized by close dialogue with the National Security Advisor, management support, offices under the National Security Advisor, and other relevant parties within the Government Offices, including the Prime Minister's staff. Ongoing daily cooperation with the office for foreign and security policy matters will be particularly important. A crucial part of the assignment is also to represent the organization in various internal, external, and international forums.
The Office for Coordinating National Security and Defense Matters is tasked with supporting the National Security Advisor in analyzing, coordinating, and directing issues, as well as implementing trips/visits within the office's designated areas of responsibility. Specifically, the office focuses on overall coordination of defense policy issues within the National Security Council's mandate, as well as matters related to NATO.

Your Background
You have an academic degree in political science, law, or another relevant field, or other educational background deemed equivalent by the employer, along with extensive relevant management experience in the Government Offices. This includes several years of successfully planning and leading operations and personnel, representing an organization in various contexts, representing an organization with multiple stakeholders, and coordinating their interests. You also have many years of experience working with current defense and security policy issues and analyses within the Government Offices, EU, and NATO, as well as experience working closely with political leadership. Furthermore, you have experience identifying, coordinating, and creating consensus on issues affecting many parties in national and international contexts.
We expect you to have extensive defense policy and military expertise, excellent knowledge of Swedish defense and security policy and intelligence activities, and thorough understanding of Government Offices' working methods and decision-making processes and the regulations governing them. You also have good knowledge of security and protective security, good knowledge of the Government Offices' organization and working methods, and insight into working in a politically governed organization.
Experience working across multiple departments and agencies in a relevant area is meritorious, as is experience of service abroad. Knowledge of the EU's role in defense and NATO's defense planning process, as well as knowledge of the defense industry and export, is also advantageous.

There will be high work pressure from time to time, which demands high flexibility and ability to prioritize, both your own and others' tasks. You are self-driven, initiative-taking, and able to contextualize issues and coordinate different interests. You are a good communicator with excellent ability to express yourself well, both in writing and verbally, in Swedish and English. Good judgment and high integrity are essential.
Other Information
Permanent employment as Department Director. Time-limited management assignment of 2-3 years.
The position is classified in a security class, and a security review with register control will be conducted before employment decision. You must be a Swedish citizen but may have a foreign background.
