About this role

Group for International Private Law, Unit for Consular and Civil Law Matters (KC), Ministry for Foreign Affairs Are you interested in working with international civil and family law matters, particularly concerning internationally abducted children and international "child protection cases," as well as issues related to paternity, marriages, recognition, and choice of law? KC serves as the Swedish central authority for the 1980 Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction, the 1996 Hague Convention on Protection of Children, and the so-called Brussels II Regulation. The group also handles other international civil law matters and issues. A significant part of the work involves navigating between international regulations and national legislation in individual cases, while being responsive to the fundamental principles and values that guide consular work. Your Workday. Sweden's Tomorrow. Your responsibilities will include case management for child abduction cases both to and from Sweden, within the framework of applicable conventions. You will also handle "child protection cases" under the Brussels II Regulation and the 1996 Hague Convention. Furthermore, the work involves providing support to Swedish diplomatic missions regarding issues such as paternity, marriage, and legal questions concerning children born abroad, as well as disseminating information to the public and professionals in the field of international civil and family law. The role is outward-facing and entails numerous contacts with ministries and authorities in other countries, as well as with stakeholders in Sweden, such as lawyers, individuals (including parents in vulnerable situations), courts, and social authorities. The work includes teaching and participation in training initiatives and meetings, both nationally and internationally. All employees at KC may, if necessary, join the unit's crisis organization and take on temporarily altered responsibilities. Your Background You are a lawyer with a focus and/or experience in international private law. You have knowledge and experience in the types of cases and issues handled by the group, for example, from government offices, courts, or municipalities. You are well acquainted with concepts such as jurisdiction, domicile, recognition, and enforcement. Experience in municipal child and youth issues/social law with a focus on children is an asset, as is experience working within government administration. Given that the work largely involves international contacts, excellent proficiency in English is required. Knowledge of additional languages is an advantage. Your Qualities Analytical ability and sound judgment, as well as strong verbal and written communication skills, are essential for this position. Collaboration skills and flexibility are other qualities we highly value. It is important that you are comfortable speaking with people in difficult situations. A significant emphasis will be placed on personality and the ability to engage with individuals. You should also have a knack for teaching, both in small and large settings. Additional Information Start date is negotiable. We offer a permanent position that begins with a six-month probationary period. The position is classified in a security category, and a security clearance with a background check will be conducted before a hiring decision is made. You must be a Swedish citizen, but having a foreign background is welcomed. Are you interested? If you would like to know more about the job and what we offer, please contact Erica Neiglick, group manager for KC's group for international private law, at 405 14 55. You are also welcome to contact HR officer Ulrika Ryberg at 08-405 29 50. The union representatives for UPF (Saco) and ST-UD can be reached via the Government Offices switchboard at 08-405 10 00.
