About this role
Do You Want to Make a Difference? 19,916 students did not complete primary school in Sweden during the 2023/2024 academic year. There are schools where 7 out of 10 students do not meet high school eligibility requirements. At the non-profit Läxhjälpen Foundation, you contribute your skills and commitment to help more students achieve eligibility requirements with confidence for the future.
We are now seeking new tutors in Sandviken! We are looking for those interested in a paid part-time job who also want to make a concrete social contribution. The position is an hourly employment in the afternoons/evenings, primarily involving providing after-school tutoring at one of our partner schools. At our organization, you work in teams of three tutors, all of whom are college students. You will receive training in, and work according to, our structured methodology. Each tutoring group consists of 15 students, and together with your colleagues, you are responsible for planning, implementing, and following up on the work.
As a tutor, you can work either as a regular tutor or as a substitute. Regular tutors work 6 hours per week, spread across two scheduled afternoons/evenings (with opportunities for extra shifts). Substitutes work when regular tutors are unavailable or sick. Work is performed after school hours in school facilities.
We are seeking candidates who:
- Are university or college students
- Have pedagogical skills and can communicate and build relationships with children and youth
- Are solution-oriented, proactive, and can work within our structured approach and methodology
- Have broad foundational subject competence and good study techniques
- Share the Läxhjälpen Foundation's values and vision of a society where all children grow up with the conditions to succeed in school and shape their own future
Since the job involves working with children, we place great importance on personal suitability. Presenting a police records extract to the employer is a statutory requirement for working with children and youth.
Differences between schools, where you live, your background, and your parents' professions increasingly determine the likelihood of academic success. Läxhjälpen is a non-profit foundation that operates where help is most needed. Tutoring is free for students, and tutors' salaries are financed through support from the business sector and public sector.
Läxhjälpen is a concrete initiative that addresses one of Sweden's most significant problems today - increasing numbers of young people struggling in school and risking social exclusion. Carefully selected, paid college students help youth with studies two evenings a week while serving as positive role models and mentors. Since our founding in 2007, we have developed a structured approach with a clear goal - to improve grades and help students progress to high school. We are currently present in over 90 schools in cities including Stockholm, Södertälje, Västerås, Norrköping, Gothenburg, Landskrona, Umeå, Sundsvall, Uppsala, Gävle, and Malmö.
