About this role
Do you want to make a difference? In the school year 2023/2024, 19,916 students in Sweden did not complete primary school. There are schools where 7 out of 10 students do not meet the requirements for high school eligibility. At the non-profit Stiftelsen Läxhjälpen, you can contribute your skills and commitment to help more students meet the eligibility criteria with confidence for the future.
We are now looking for new tutors in Uppsala! We are seeking individuals interested in a paid part-time job who also want to make a tangible social impact. The position is a part-time employment in the afternoons/evenings and involves being a tutor after school at one of our partner schools. With us, you will work in a team of three tutors, all of whom are university students. You will receive training in and work according to our structured approach. Each tutoring group consists of 15 students, and together with your colleagues, you will be responsible for planning, executing, and following up on the work.
As a tutor, you can work either as a regular tutor or as a substitute. As a regular tutor, you will work 6 hours per week spread over two scheduled afternoons/evenings (there is an opportunity for extra shifts). As a substitute, you will work when regular tutors are on leave or sick. The work is carried out after school hours in the school’s facilities.
We are looking for someone who:
- Is a university or college student
- Has pedagogical skills and can communicate and build relationships with children and young people
- Is solution-oriented, proactive, and can work according to our structured approach and methodology
- Has a broad foundational subject competence and good study techniques
- Shares the values and vision of Stiftelsen Läxhjälpen for a society where all children grow up with the conditions to succeed in school and shape their own future
Since the job involves working with children, we place great importance on personal suitability. A police background check is a legal requirement for working with children and young people.
The differences between schools, where you live, where you come from, and what your parents do increasingly determine the likelihood of your success in school. Stiftelsen Läxhjälpen is a non-profit foundation that operates where it is needed the most. Tutoring is free for students, and the tutors' salaries are funded through support from the business community and the public sector.
Läxhjälpen is a concrete initiative that addresses one of Sweden's biggest problems today - that more and more young people are failing in school and risk becoming marginalized in society. Carefully selected, paid university students help young people with their studies two evenings a week while also serving as positive role models and mentors. Since our inception in 2007, we have developed a structured approach and a clear goal - to improve grades and help students progress to high school. We are currently present in over 90 schools in cities including Stockholm, Södertälje, Västerås, Norrköping, Gothenburg, Landskrona, Umeå, Sundsvall, Uppsala, Gävle, and Malmö.
