About this role
Make a difference. Every day.
Are you looking for a new challenge where you have the opportunity to develop in your role as an intensive care nurse? Do you want to work in a multidisciplinary team in a highly specialized Intensive Care Unit, where we focus on the critically ill ICU patient through person-centered care? Then the Thoracic Intensive Care Unit (THIVA) in Lund is the place for you.
At THIVA, we collaborate with thoracic surgery and the thoracic surgical department. Together with vascular surgery in Malmö, we form the thoracic and vascular operational area, which continuously invests in developing the services. We strive to place the individual in need of highly specialized and technology-intensive care at the center of our work by prioritizing the care relationship and continuity around the patient. Our patients have undergone thoracic surgical procedures such as lung surgery, coronary surgery, valve surgery, or aortic surgery. The patient's meaning-making is highlighted through educational conversations. Every week, we hold nursing rounds where the interdisciplinary team plans for patients facing significant challenges both humanly and medically, based on health and well-being. We care for patients covered by our national healthcare assignment in heart transplantation, lung transplantation, and adults with complex congenital heart defects (GUCH). We also provide care to patients with acute respiratory failure who require ECMO from hospitals in Skåne.
THIVA is a stimulating workplace within a well-functioning organization with continuous operational development. We work towards a good working environment and ongoing professional development. The department is characterized by an open work climate where both management and employees care for each other and our work environment.
We need more people in our important work! We welcome your application to our exciting operation if you want to join our team of experienced, positive, and engaged colleagues!
JOB DESCRIPTION
We are looking for someone who enjoys working in a team around critically ill thoracic patients. The team surrounding the patients consists of anesthesiologists, intensive care nurses, nursing assistants, physiotherapists, social workers, and medical secretaries. With us, you will care for patients with varying levels of complexity. In your work, you will encounter adult patients postoperatively after heart and lung surgery, with needs ranging from a few hours of monitoring to longer hospital stays. In your role, you will care for patients with vital organ failure who require support, such as dialysis and aortic balloon pumps. You will also provide care to patients treated with advanced medical equipment, such as mechanical heart assist devices like Heartmate and ECMO. Additionally, you will care for patients who have undergone lung or heart transplantation.
At THIVA, we have the privilege of having a nursing professor associated with us who guides and supports us in our work. We constantly aim to work from a person-centered perspective. As a nursing responsible nurse, you will work with a doctoral nurse, and together with the team, you will lead nursing rounds. Together with our physiotherapists, we promote active and health-enhancing care, such as early mobilization and bed cycling, to maintain/strengthen the patient's resources while increasing the chances of progressing towards better health and well-being.
We offer a thorough introduction with theory and practical guidance tailored to you and your needs, so you as a new employee can feel comfortable and settle into the work. You will be paired with two experienced mentors and also connected to a training responsible nurse and a medical technical nurse. After the introduction, you will receive a mentor, and together you will meet in continuous structured meetings during your first year at THIVA to ensure you feel secure in your role.
Many of our employees have extensive experience in thoracic intensive care, and with that solid expertise, we welcome new colleagues who wish to expand their knowledge base. We are still learning something new all the time!
