About this role
The Court of Appeal for Western Sweden is the second largest of the country's six courts of appeal. The main task of the court is to review cases and matters that have been appealed from the district courts within its jurisdiction. The court has four adjudicating divisions and an administrative division. Approximately 150 people work at the court, which is located in central Gothenburg.
Every day, hundreds of cases and matters are resolved in courts across Sweden. Our organization consists of employees with diverse competencies, each playing a significant role in maintaining legal certainty and high quality at all levels.

The Court of Appeal offers law students the opportunity to work as summer clerks at the court during the summer of 2026. As a summer clerk, you will have the chance to apply your theoretical knowledge in practical work and will be able to discuss legal issues with the judges of the court. Last but not least, you will gain such a good insight into the court's operations that you can consider whether a judicial training program is a possible career choice for you.
About the position
As a summer clerk, you will gain valuable insight into the court's operations. The tasks correspond in many respects to those performed by newly hired court clerks (judges in training) and will involve taking minutes during main hearings, conducting legal research, and presenting cases. Other relevant tasks may include administrative duties, meaning the administrative handling of cases from the moment they are submitted to the court until they are resolved. You will be assigned a court clerk as a mentor, who will provide support and help you develop.
Qualifications
You must be enrolled at a university and have not yet completed your law degree or finished the law program before August 2026. At the time of application, you should have completed the sixth semester of the law program and finished courses in criminal law and procedural law.
We are looking for candidates with good grades from the law program and solid legal knowledge, as well as strong communication skills. You convey information clearly and simply, both orally and in writing. Other important qualities include attention to detail, analytical ability, good teamwork skills, and the ability to organize and plan your work independently.
To be considered for employment, you must meet high standards regarding judgment, security awareness, and suitability. This means that you uphold democratic values and the governmental ethical framework that governs the operations of Sweden's courts. We also require compliance with applicable laws.

The summer clerk positions involve eight weeks of service during the summer of 2026. We prefer that you can start on June 8, 2026.
