Welcome to Formas, a Research Council for Sustainable Development!
We finance research and innovation and develop knowledge bases that contribute to achieving the UN's global sustainability goals and Sweden's environmental objectives. We have a strong focus on collaboration with researchers and various societal actors, both in Sweden and internationally.
Our internship program is aimed at university and college students. The internship period typically covers up to 20 weeks (full semester). We offer you an opportunity to intern at Formas' departments of Environment, Land-Based Industries, or Analysis and Policy.
At the Environment Department, we are particularly interested in an intern who is interested in climate issues and wants to work with analysis, follow-up, and outreach activities related to the research Formas finances in the climate field.
Land-Based Industries is seeking an intern with knowledge and interest in forestry, agriculture, or food, who wants to contribute to analyses and support external activities such as meetings and conferences.
At the Analysis and Policy Department, we are especially interested in an intern who has knowledge of environmental economics or data/AI tools, or is interested in compiling results from published environmental research and the research and innovation programs Formas finances.
Tasks during the Internship
As an intern at Formas, you will be offered the opportunity to work on your own tasks or projects under supervision in one of our departments. Our goal is for the internship to be developmental for you, as well as a mutual exchange where Formas can benefit from the current expertise from your education. You will have the chance to apply your theoretical knowledge in a work environment. You will also gain insight into our operations and work at a government agency.
As an intern, your tasks might include supporting employees in work related to calls for proposals, background materials, environmental scanning, research compilations, socio-economic analyses, evaluation methodology, compiling statistics, conducting analyses, or contributing to organizing events such as workshops, seminars, roundtable discussions, or other types of meetings.

To thrive and develop in the role, we are looking for someone who:
• Is near the end of their studies at a university/college (bachelor's or master's level)
• Is interested in sustainability issues within Formas' areas of operation
• Is interested in analysis, investigation, and evaluation work
• Writes fluently and correctly in both Swedish and English
Working at Formas
Formas is a government agency with approximately 100 employees. Our areas of operation include environment, land-based industries, and societal building. This means we finance research and innovation related to climate, circular economy, food, forestry and agriculture, seas and water, urban planning. Additionally, we develop strategies, conduct analyses, compile knowledge bases, and communicate about research and research results. We actively work to be at the forefront of digital solutions and processes.
About the Internship
Internship Period: Spring 2026, with a duration of up to 20 weeks.
Compensation: No compensation will be provided. The internship should be completed within the framework of your studies.
Workplace: At Formas' office on Drottninggatan 89 in Stockholm, with opportunities for remote work according to agreement with the supervisor.
