About this role
State Institutions Board (SiS) is a government agency responsible for individualized compulsory care for youth with complex psychosocial problems and adults with substance abuse. SiS also executes closed youth care. We do this at youth homes and homes for adults with addiction, throughout the country. At SiS, your work life becomes an exciting challenge. Regardless of where in our organization you work, or what position you hold, you help create vital change.
SiS Youth Home Sundbo, located outside Fagersta, receives non-compulsory school-aged boys with psychosocial problems, criminality, and substance abuse. We are tasked with providing care for youth with special care needs and receive boys sentenced to closed youth care (LSU).
Job Description
Youth who are in challenging and tough life situations come to us. Many have negative school experiences and low self-confidence. As a teacher here, you will work with these students and have a unique chance to spark their desire to learn and make them proud of themselves. Teaching occurs in small classes, giving you ample time for each student. You always work from individual needs and build trusting, professional relationships that make youth feel secure in school.
Sundboskolan is a separate unit within the institution where we collaborate to plan, teach in small groups, evaluate, and develop school work. Teaching at Sundbo is focused on both high school and primary school levels, with most youth between 16-20 years old. School activities at SiS follow the same regulations as the broader school system, with necessary deviations permitted in consideration of the student.
We have newly built and adapted school facilities in a "standard school" where most teaching takes place.
Sundboskolan is responsible for the education of all enrolled youth, regardless of their problems or placement type. All youth at the youth home should receive the education they need and are entitled to. We work closely with youth and maintain a positive spirit in both work and relationships. Teachers both instruct and have a mentorship responsibility for students.
Qualifications
Teaching certification with subject competence in Swedish and English for high school instruction.
You have experience with pedagogical work in school environments.
At SiS, we value good employee collaboration. This means taking responsibility for your work, contributing to development, and promoting good cooperation.
Preferred Qualities
As a person, you are confident, stable, and calm, even in stressful situations. You always take responsibility for your tasks by planning, organizing, and prioritizing work effectively to achieve set goals. We appreciate someone who is humble, flexible, can set and maintain respectful boundaries, and believes all students can find a path to education and work.
Previous work in introduction programs or special teaching groups is especially advantageous.
Employment:
This is a permanent full-time position with an initial six-month probationary period. Start date by agreement.
