Students are encouraged to participate in national and international exchanges, competitions, and exhibitions that lay the foundation for future networks. Note: To apply for the position, please visit www.gu.se Subject Craft with a focus on Metal Design Subject Description The subject encompasses a range from skilled craftsmanship to conceptual design and research-based activities. What unites these is a reflective approach to material, method, function, and tradition. At HDK-Valand, the subject's potential to create understanding of our contemporary society through artistic design is explored. It is a non-linear process that begins with material or idea. The process progresses as a dialogue between practitioner, method, material, and the surrounding world. The artistic practice is formulated and developed through workshop and studio work, theoretical studies, writing, and reflection. The ability to design and the ability to place the work in contemporary and historical contexts, as well as in a social context, are interdependent as the subject advances.
