The University of Gothenburg meets societal challenges with diverse knowledge. With 58,000 students and 6,800 employees, the university is a large and inspiring workplace. Strong research and attractive educational programs attract researchers and students from around the world. With new knowledge and perspectives, the University of Gothenburg contributes to a better future. The Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts consists of the institutions HDK-Valand – Academy of Art and Design and the Academy of Music and Drama.
Literary Composition at HDK-Valand encompasses artistic practices of writing and reading, as well as critical discussions surrounding these. A common thread among the various programs and activities in this field is the belief that in-depth conversations, stemming from artistic practice and relating this practice to others, are significant for both the individual practitioner and the literary field at large.
HDK-Valand is now seeking 2-5 guest lecturers for teaching in our three educational programs and our standalone courses.
Subject Description
The subject of Literary Composition currently includes the Bachelor’s Program in Literary Composition, the Master’s Program in Literary Composition, the Master’s Program in Literary Translation, as well as a varied offering of standalone courses. Within Literary Composition, and as an integral part of HDK-Valand’s and the Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts’ shared environment, artistic research is also conducted.
Students in Literary Composition are encouraged to engage critically and experimentally with literary traditions, conventions, and literary public spheres. An important part of the education is learning to relate one’s work to relevant cultural, historical, and artistic contexts.
Job Responsibilities
We are looking for individuals interested in teaching in the Bachelor’s Program in Literary Composition. We are also seeking those who wish to teach translation to and from English in the Master’s Program in Literary Translation. Some teaching in the Master’s Program in Literary Composition and/or our standalone courses may also occur. The assignment may involve short engagements lasting one or a few days, such as lectures, seminars, workshops, text discussions, supervision, or roles as discussants. The assignment may also include longer periods encompassing a cohesive teaching block over one or several weeks. We are seeking multiple individuals with diverse competencies who can undertake various types of assignments.
The work will be conducted on-site at HDK-Valand in Gothenburg. There is an opportunity for reimbursement for travel and accommodation related to teaching.
Qualifications
For employment, demonstrated education or qualified work experience in a relevant field is required. We prefer candidates with experience in higher education teaching, experience in conducting seminars, workshops, and providing supervision.
In addition to skill assessment, great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability and ability to collaborate. We will primarily consider applicants who, after a holistic assessment, are deemed to have the best conditions to carry out the described tasks.
Employment
The positions are for intermittent employment as agreed during the period from January 1, 2026, to December 31, 2027. Teaching in the courses will take place on-site at HDK-Valand in Gothenburg. The work entails approximately 10 - 140 hours per semester, which can be scheduled within the contract period.
You will have an intermittent employment for the work opportunities that occur during this period. In intermittent employment, you will be called in and can choose to accept the offered work, which then constitutes a new employment relationship for each individual occasion. You also have the right to decline such an offer. Worked hours are reported to the employer per calendar month using the GU/Hourly Wage form.
