The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is expanding – we are building new facilities, renovating, and adding to our teams, and are now seeking more employees. Job Description

As a probation officer, you will be responsible for clients on conditional release as well as clients sentenced to probation who are under supervision. The probation service also oversees intensive supervision with electronic monitoring, known as an electronic ankle monitor, and community service. The work within the probation service largely consists of investigative work, conducting risk and needs assessments, and developing execution plans. Probation officers also lead treatment programs for probation clients.

As a probation officer, you actively participate in outreach efforts directed at clients, including structured conversations based on cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), motivating participation in program activities, or assisting with release preparations for clients held in prison. Probation officers also conduct personal investigations and provide opinions to the court, suggesting appropriate sanctions. The probation office in Halmstad primarily operates in work teams with some specialization. Administration and documentation are part of the job.

Qualifications

You have a solid understanding of how people absorb knowledge and adapt your communication style according to the recipient’s circumstances. In your professional practice, you possess good judgment and integrity. As a probation officer, you need to have strong collaboration skills and be able to communicate clearly. Additionally, you should have a physical condition that allows you to act physically if the situation requires it.

We are looking for candidates who have:

  • An academic degree (at least a bachelor’s degree), preferably in social sciences, law, social work, or relevant fields, or other academic education combined with experience deemed relevant by the Swedish Prison and Probation Service.
  • Proficient knowledge of the Swedish language in both spoken and written forms.
  • A valid B driver's license.

It is advantageous if you have:

  • Well-documented work experience in criminal justice, social care, psychiatry, or healthcare and welfare work.
  • Experience working as a probation officer.
  • Experience in investigative work.
  • Experience in execution planning.
  • Experience working with the target group of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service.
  • Experience in documentation and case management.

The temporary positions are for 10 months.
