University of West Seeks a Research Engineer in Sensor Design and AI Algorithms
The Department of Engineering is seeking an engineer with documented experience in sensor design, AI algorithms, and academic publications to work on two ongoing collaborative projects over an 11-month period.
The new engineer will collaborate with researchers and industrial partners in the DIPyAI and PODFAM projects. You will also have the opportunity to participate in the department's teaching activities.
For over 20 years, University of West has been a Cisco Academy Support and Training Center, responsible for quality and instructor training at over 15 Cisco academies, five of which are colleges or universities.
The department conducts outstanding research in automation, where digitalization will play a central role in the future.
Job Responsibilities
The main focus of the position is to work on sensor and AI-related aspects of the two mentioned projects. Beyond technical work, you may also need to interact with industrial partners, regularly present work to them, participate in meetings, contribute to new research applications, and potentially supervise bachelor's and master's thesis projects.
Active participation in departmental and university activities is important. This includes contributing to development work and administrative tasks. Opportunities for skills development are offered in accordance with current working time agreements.

Qualification Requirements for Research Engineer Position
- At least a four-year engineering degree. Preference will be given to those who have completed, or are close to completing, a doctoral degree.
Additional requirements for this position:
- Experience understanding sensor physics, embedded systems, and PCB design
- Experience designing AI algorithms and architectures for sensor data processing
- Good English skills, both oral and written
Meriting Factors:
- Experience with interdisciplinary projects
- Demonstrated good collaboration skills and ability to create good relationships both internally at the university and with external partners
- Experience in academic research with documented publication merit in highly ranked journals or conferences
- Experience using AI-based code tools to create more efficient program code
- Experience in drafting research applications and leading externally funded projects (e.g., EU, Vinnova, or KK Foundation)
- Contribution to the industrial research environment at University of West

- A strong professional network within Swedish industry

Terms
This is a special fixed-term employment for 11 months with a 100% employment rate.
Intended start date is 2026-01-15 or by agreement.
