We are seeking a research engineer to join the department's shared support function. The unit currently consists of three research engineers whose primary task is to assist the department's researchers and teachers with technical and laboratory support. We collaborate with the department's administrative staff and central support functions at both university and campus levels to provide the best possible service to our core operations.
Job Responsibilities
The tasks are highly varied and based on the core operations' needs. You will primarily be responsible for our organic chemistry course laboratories. This includes purchasing and unpacking consumables and chemicals, handling laboratory waste, chemical inventory, and routine maintenance of basic instruments and infrastructure. When external service technicians are needed, you will manage contact and be responsible for reporting issues to the administration/Akademiska Hus. You will also be responsible for introducing new lab teachers to safety regulations and procedures in the laboratories you manage. When time permits, you will also work on similar tasks in our research laboratories. Some unqualified tasks are included in the position.
The support function is responsible for informing the department's other employees about university and departmental rules and procedures in various areas. You are expected to participate in this work, primarily by staying up-to-date with both internal and external safety regulations and contributing to maintaining a safe laboratory environment. We expect you to develop in your work, with potential for more advanced tasks in the future.
Qualification Requirements
We are seeking candidates with a master's degree in organic chemistry or equivalent. Excellent Swedish and English skills in both spoken and written communication are required. This includes the ability to comprehend official documents in Swedish and summarize them in English for non-Swedish-speaking staff. The department's facilities are spread throughout the building, and there will be lifting and moving of various equipment. Therefore, being in good physical condition is important.
Since your primary task is to support researchers and teachers, you must be service-oriented, flexible, and have good collaboration skills. You must be self-driven and structured, as you will largely be responsible for planning your own work. It is also important that you can prioritize your tasks effectively, as there may be periods of high workload and conflicting demands from the organization. Significant emphasis will be placed on personal characteristics.
Desirable/Meritorious Qualifications
Experience with instrument maintenance and troubleshooting, especially HPLC, LC-MS, and GC. Experience with systematic workplace environment work in laboratory settings, chemical inventory, purchasing, and waste management.
