The Department of Immunology, Genetics, and Pathology at Uppsala University has a broad research profile with strong research groups focused on areas such as cancer, genetic, and autoimmune diseases. One of the core ideas at the department is to stimulate translational research and thereby promote closer collaboration between medical research and healthcare. Research is conducted within six research programs: cancer precision medicine, cancer immunotherapy, genomics and neurobiology, molecular tools and functional genomics, neuro-oncology and neurodegeneration, as well as vascular biology. Parts of the operations are also integrated with the departments of oncology, clinical genetics, clinical immunology, clinical pathology, and hospital physics at Uppsala University Hospital. The department has teaching assignments in several program educations, standalone courses, and international master's programs within the medical faculty. The department has an annual budget of approximately 550 million SEK, of which about two-thirds are external research grants. The number of employees is around 400, of which about 100 are doctoral students, and there are over 850 active members in the workforce. The Vickovic Lab at Uppsala University is seeking a dynamic, self-motivated, team-oriented computational researcher or statistician to expand computational efforts to understand disease mechanisms. We are interested in developing integrative multimodal data analysis tools that include single-cell data and spatially resolved omics data, imaging data, clinical phenotypes, variants, and genotypes. The successful candidate will have the unique opportunity to work at the intersection of mathematical modeling, omics data analysis, workflow optimization, and resource building.
Responsibilities
- Develop new computational, machine learning, and statistical analysis methods to integrate and analyze large-scale, single-cell, and spatially resolved RNA sequencing and genotypic data using current state-of-the-art technologies.
- Develop data analysis strategies, write algorithms, and deploy computational tools for exploring very large datasets. Create a resource for the community that provides access to collected data.
- Work closely with experimental colleagues and cores to understand the nature of generated data.
- Actively participate in the drafting of manuscripts for publication and present at scientific conferences.
- Assist with peer and student mentorship.
- Share expertise and provide training and guidance to group members as needed.
Qualifications
- A minimum of a Master's degree in applied mathematics, computer science, or a related discipline is required; a PhD is preferred.
