About this role

Research Officer - Built Environment We are seeking a research officer for our Built Environment unit who wants to contribute to developing future resource-efficient buildings by increasing understanding of opportunities, risks, and potential conflicts in the transition to a sustainable energy society for all, and the changing role of buildings in the energy system. Resource-efficient buildings involve more than just new technical solutions. Solutions must work within systems and for everyone, with buildings evolving from merely consuming energy to becoming important nodes for energy supply, storage, and sharing. We are looking for someone who wants to contribute to developing and disseminating new knowledge to accelerate societal transformation. The Swedish Energy Agency works toward a fossil-free and robust energy supply. Energy security, competitiveness, and ecological sustainability are perspectives that must be balanced to secure future energy systems. Your Responsibilities: - Supporting research efforts focused on building knowledge and competence to enable and accelerate the built environment's role in society's transition to a sustainable energy system - Research efforts will combine technical, natural science, social science, and behavioral science perspectives - Focusing on developing more resource-efficient energy use in buildings across their entire lifecycle - Addressing challenges that require more than technological development, including engagement with societal actors and structures Key Tasks: - Preparing background materials for research calls - Processing applications - Maintaining contact with project managers - Monitoring research projects in our portfolio - Administrative work - Organizing meetings, seminars, and conferences - Contributing to long-term research and innovation strategies - Conducting environmental monitoring - Contributing to reports and analyses - Collaborating with national and international organizations - Building networks with businesses, industry organizations, academia, and institutes - Occasional national and international travel Qualifications: - Academic degree in energy systems, economics, political science, behavioral science, environmental science, or equivalent - System-level perspective and forward-thinking approach - Extensive knowledge of buildings' role in energy systems - Research, investigation, or practical experience related to sustainable energy system transformation - Excellent Swedish and English communication skills - Strong computer skills Personal Characteristics: - Proactive and responsible - Humble and open-minded - Holistic problem-solving approach - Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills - Structured and efficient planning abilities We Offer: - Open and creative work environment - Learning opportunities - Flexible working arrangements - Located in central Eskilstuna with good commuting options - Activity-based workplace - Flexible hours and remote work options - Wellness benefits - On-site gym Position Details: - Permanent employment with six-month probation period - Start date by agreement - Potential security classification requiring background check Application Deadline: December 7, 2025 We promote diversity and encourage applications from candidates with varied backgrounds.
