Do you want to contribute to understanding and treating brain injury - alongside driven and knowledgeable colleagues in an international research environment? Would you like to work in a research group that combines clinical neuroscience with advanced experimental basic research?
Welcome to apply for a position as a researcher at Uppsala University.
The Department of Medical Sciences is a large clinical institution with approximately 250 employees and over 900 people affiliated with the Academic Hospital. The department has a broad research profile with strong research groups in various areas. Research takes place in close connection to clinical activities at the Academic Hospital and encompasses both basic studies on disease causes and the development and evaluation of improved diagnostics and new treatment methods. More about the department's activities can be found at https://www.uu.se/institution/medicinska-vetenskaper/
About the Work
The research group conducts research on the mechanisms behind traumatic brain injury (TBI), aiming to understand how secondary brain damage occurs and how it can be prevented. The focus is on neuroinflammation, vascular reactions, and cell damage after TBI, as well as identifying molecular signaling pathways that affect recovery and long-term outcomes. The group also studies genetic factors influencing individual differences in brain injury outcomes.
A central aspect of the research is identifying and testing new pharmacological treatments that can improve prognosis after TBI. The work encompasses animal models, cell-based systems, and analysis of patient samples, in close collaboration with clinical and international partners.
The work environment is creative, interdisciplinary, and strongly anchored in translational research where laboratory results can quickly contribute to improved treatment and care strategies for TBI patients.
Job Responsibilities
The work involves planning and conducting preclinical experiments in neurobiology, molecular biology, and pharmacology. This includes:
- Working with animal models of traumatic brain injury
- Various types of tissue analysis
- Testing pharmacological treatments
- Image analysis
- The role also involves data analysis, result compilation, and active participation in scientific discussions and publications.
Qualifications Requirements
- Master's or doctoral degree in biomedicine, medicine, pharmacy, or equivalent field
- Documented experience in experimental laboratory work (wet lab)
- Strong knowledge of molecular and cellular biology methods
- Excellent English communication skills, both oral and written
- Precision, independence, and good collaboration abilities
Desirable/Meriting Additional Qualifications
- Experience working with experimental animals and ethical review
- Knowledge in neuroscience, inflammation, or pharmacological treatment
- Experience in bioinformatics, data analysis, or image analysis
- Previous experience in TBI research or related areas
