About this role

Stockholm Resilience Centre (SRC) is a research center for resilience and sustainable development at Stockholm University. The center promotes scientific understanding of complex, dynamic interactions between humans and nature in the biosphere; educates the next generation of researchers and leaders in sustainable development; and collaborates with change agents who share our vision. The center is a joint initiative of Stockholm University and the Beijer Institute of Ecological Economics at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. Overall, SRC has approximately 160 employees. More information about us can be found at: https://www.stockholmresilience.org/ Project Description Under the increasing human pressure on the planet, many ecosystems risk undergoing significant, abrupt, and long-lasting changes. Examples of these so-called regime shifts include the collapse of fish stocks, transformation from forest to savanna, or melting of ice sheets. Regime shifts are difficult to predict, costly or sometimes impossible to reverse, and they often affect the benefits that humans derive from nature—such as food, water, and climate regulation. This project contributes to a global assessment of regime shifts, their causes, and consequences for society by further developing the Regime Shifts Database (https://www.regimeshifts.org/). The research assistant will work alongside an international team collecting case studies for the database and developing communication tools for dialogue with various users and stakeholders. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to research of global significance. You will be part of a groundbreaking research initiative—the Mistra-funded research program Finance to Revive Biodiversity (FinBio) (https://finbio.org/)—which aims to integrate biodiversity and nature-related risks into financial decision-making processes, from regulation to investments. Job Responsibilities The tasks may vary depending on project needs and planned activities and can include: - Coding case studies into the database based on scientific literature reviews. - Coding potential case studies from news articles in English and other languages. - Contributing to the co-design of web interfaces and communication tools for both academic and non-academic users. - Developing editorial tools that support asynchronous collaboration and reproducible research. Qualifications Applicants should have a master's degree or equivalent experience in sustainability research or another relevant discipline, such as computer science or information technology. Applicants who are close to finishing their studies are also eligible to apply. The applicant must be fluent in English, both spoken and written. Knowledge of other major languages, such as Spanish, Chinese, or French, is an asset. We are looking for a research assistant with: - experience and education in data management and web design - an interdisciplinary background and interest in sustainability research - knowledge and experience in reproducible research and tools such as RMarkdown or Quarto - documented experience working with databases and programming. About the Position The position is for 12 months on a full-time basis. Stockholm University applies individual salary setting. Start date in January 2026, or as agreed. What We Offer With us, you will experience the dynamics of the interplay between higher education and research that makes Stockholm University an exciting and creative environment.
