Research Assistant in Medicine - Temporary Position at the Department of Medical Sciences Subject Area Subject area of the position: Medicine Background Örebro University is internationally recognized and a world leader in research on inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) and participates in the EU-funded research project INTERCEPT. The project aims to prevent Crohn's disease by identifying, validating, and verifying biomarkers in large international cohorts. Within the project, Örebro University is responsible for the work package aimed at analyzing samples from individuals later diagnosed with Crohn's disease and their controls, making the IBD and Translational Gastroenterology research group a central node in the international collaboration. To strengthen the research group and contribute to the project's implementation, we are now seeking a research assistant with experience in translational research within inflammatory bowel diseases. Job Responsibilities As a research assistant in the project, you will work on validating and verifying biomarkers for Crohn's disease, based on serum samples from large European cohorts (including PREDICT, Lifelines, HUNT, MDC, and EPIC). Main tasks include proteomics, antibody, and glycosylation data analyses, result interpretation, and scientific publication. The work will be conducted in close collaboration with international research partners within the INTERCEPT consortium. In addition to research tasks, some teaching, not exceeding 20% of the position, may be included in the employment. Qualifications A master's degree in medicine, biomedicine, or a related field, as well as several years of research experience in medical science, is required for this position. Assessment Criteria The candidate should have documented experience in proteomics, metabolomics, and autoantibodies, particularly applied to clinical materials, and extensive experience in data analysis and research on IBD biomarkers. Scientific publications in internationally recognized journals in the field, including first authorship, are required. Additional requirements include experience analyzing protein data from the Olink platform or similar technologies, as well as experience with autoantibody and metabolomics analysis. The work involves close collaboration with international IBD research groups. Experience with international collaborations, good knowledge of national and international patient cohorts, and involvement in collaborations between Örebro University and Region Örebro County are meritorious. Experience presenting research at national and international IBD conferences is meritorious. Furthermore, teaching experience, especially in problem-based learning in medical education, is a merit. Particularly important personal qualities include meticulousness, analytical ability, independence, and collaborative skills, as the position involves working in a multidisciplinary research group with several large national and international collaborations. Excellent skills in both Swedish and English, spoken and written, are meritorious. Information The position is 100%, for 6 months. Örebro University applies individual salary setting.
