About this role

Department of Aquatic Resources The Department of Aquatic Resources monitors and evaluates the status and development of aquatic ecosystems and how resource utilization impacts these systems. Research includes studies on fish and shellfish stock status, ecosystem analysis and interactions, spatial analyses, effects of human impact on fish and ecosystems, fisheries management and methods, aquaculture and its effects. Biological advisory services for management and sustainable use is one of the department's main tasks, including managing Sweden's part of the EU marine data collection program and conducting national environmental monitoring. The department is located in eight locations, with main sites in Uppsala (Ultuna), Öregrund, Lysekil, Stockholm (Drottningholm), and four field stations. Job Description: We are seeking a researcher for the position of deputy department head at approximately 40% of full-time, responsible for the Salmonid Unit. The Salmonid Unit currently consists of about 12 people, most of whom are PhD researchers or environmental analysis specialists. The unit works primarily with salmonids but also with other species. The unit is responsible for several assignments from the Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management and delivers scientific basis for the management of salmon and sea trout, including data collection, stock analyses, and developing scientific advice within the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) working groups. In addition to assignments, the unit's researchers drive several research projects covering various subject areas, such as population genetics, modeling, algal toxins, and the environmental impact of hydropower. An important part of the work is integrating environmental analysis with research. Seeking external research and development funds, as well as maintaining and creating national and international networks, is part of the job. The work includes reporting to various clients (such as different agencies) and publishing scientific articles. The role also involves communication with various societal actors (agencies, organizations, and the public). As deputy department head, you will have budget and personnel responsibility, including responsibility for workplace environment issues for the unit. You will assist the department head in their tasks. Together with the department's management group, you will contribute to strategic work and operational planning. Together with the unit, you will drive and develop the unit's activities. Qualifications: We are seeking someone who is responsible, structured, and driven, with the ability and interest to lead qualified employees in a knowledge organization towards common goals. You should have the ability to create trust and collaborate well with people at all levels in both internal and external relationships. You will do this through good dialogue and respect for the needs and conditions of different operations. You contribute to a good spirit and creative work environment for both the unit and the department. You have a strong commitment to communicative leadership and HR issues, which you drive with clarity to create an inclusive and stimulating workplace. You should: • Have a PhD in aquatic ecology, limnology, or another relevant field for the position. • Have very good ability to communicate in writing and verbally, both in English and Swedish. • Have documented ability to successfully publish, present, and report research results. • Have very good collaboration and organizational skills. • Have the ability to structure work, handle a wide variety of tasks, and continuously prioritize.
