Description
The Department of Literature and Rhetoric currently has approximately 30 active teachers, researchers, and doctoral students.
The department has two main subjects: literature and rhetoric. Education is offered at all levels in both fields, from basic courses to doctoral studies. Literary research in Uppsala is broad in terms of time and space, as well as theoretical approaches and methodological approaches. Research interests span from antiquity to the present day, with scholars studying both Swedish and foreign literature. Some profile areas are formalized, and a special division of literary sociology has existed since 1965. Our ambition is to be a nationally and internationally leading research environment for both Swedish and international literature.

The position is connected to the research project "Trapping the Hunter in His Own Trap: The Reception of Vanessa Springora's Consent" (2025-2028), funded by the Marcus and Amalia Wallenberg Memorial Foundation and led by Associate Professor Sigrid Schottenius Cullhed. The project examines how Vanessa Springora's book Consent (2020) and its film adaptation (2023) have been received in the French-speaking public sphere – in professional criticism and on social media – and how these discussions reflect changing attitudes toward sexual consent. The study combines digital/language technological methods with literary, feminist, and intermedial analyses. More information about the project can be found at https://maw.wallenberg.org/projekt/forandring-av-attityder-till-sexuellt-samtycke-over-generationer.
