The University of Gothenburg meets societal challenges with diverse knowledge. With 58,000 students and 6,800 employees, the university is a large and inspiring workplace. Strong research and attractive educational programs attract researchers and students from around the world. With new knowledge and perspectives, the University of Gothenburg contributes to a better future. The Department of Physics at the University of Gothenburg, located in central Gothenburg, has approximately 100 employees. Communication opportunities are excellent, both nationally and internationally. The research focuses on atomic and molecular physics, condensed matter physics, spintronics, complex systems, and biophysics, conducted in an international environment with extensive national and international collaborations. The education at the department includes teaching in bachelor's and master's programs in physics, physics in teacher education, and courses in physics aimed at the general public. The Physics Center in Gothenburg, a close collaboration with three other departments within the Faculty of Science and Chalmers University of Technology, creates an innovative environment for all researchers and students in the department.
More information about the activities at the Department of Physics can be found at www.physics.gu.se. Additional information about the Gothenburg Physics Center is available at www.chalmers.se/en/centers/physics-center/Pages/default.aspx.
The position is located in the research group for laser spectroscopy. The group conducts research in the areas of laser spectroscopy of negative ions, optical levitation, femtosecond spectroscopy, and research on physics education. The work takes place in laboratories at the department, at CERN, and at the national facility DESIREE at Stockholm University. The research group consists of about 15 people.
**Job Responsibilities**
The holder of this position will primarily conduct research in the field of laser spectroscopy of negative ions, but will also engage in research in the area of femtosecond spectroscopy to a lesser extent. The work includes participation in ongoing projects and the initiation of new projects. The role encompasses all phases of the research process, from a scientific idea to the presentation of results at scientific conferences and through publication in leading international journals. The research will take place both at the ion accelerator GUNILLA and the laser laboratory "Göteborgs fotonfabrik" located at the Department of Physics, as well as at the national facility DESIREE at Stockholm University.
**Qualifications**
A PhD in physics is required, along with research merits in experimental atomic and molecular physics. Experience in the research area of laser spectroscopy of negative ions is essential, and experience in applied femtosecond spectroscopy is advantageous. We expect you to have experience in research involving ion sources, ion optics, vacuum, detectors, high voltage, and high-resolution tunable pulsed lasers. Knowledge of software such as Python, MatLab, LabView, and ThaTEC is a plus. The holder of the position must be well-organized, meticulous, responsible, and able to work both independently and in a team. Proficiency in English, both spoken and written, is a prerequisite.
