Your Duties As a researcher at the Department of Information Technology, you will contribute to knowledge development in intelligent energy systems through collaboration with colleagues in the CSL@BS research group, industrial partners, and students. Your work will primarily focus on applying agent-based reinforcement learning (RL) to optimize heat load management in district heating networks, within the framework of the project "Data Analysis for Peak Load Stabilization in District Heating Networks (DAS)". The work includes: • Design and implementation of RL algorithms to address challenges of peak load variations in district heating systems • Development and use of simulation models to evaluate the effectiveness of different control strategies, including hybrid simulation methods • Analysis of large datasets from district heating networks and building facilities to improve model performance • Close collaboration with industrial partners such as Borås Energi och Miljö (BE), Bostäder i Borås (BiB), NODA Intelligent Systems, and Ekkono Solutions to ensure research's practical relevance and impact • Exploration of Federated Learning (FL) and Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN) to improve model training and data accessibility • Contributing to scientific publications and presentations to disseminate research results to both academic and industrial worlds • Participation in project meetings and knowledge exchange activities Your Qualifications To be considered for the position, you must have a doctoral degree or equivalent scientific competence in computer science, informatics, electronics, data analysis, or another relevant subject area. You should have good English skills and be able to document: • Experience with reinforcement learning • Experience in agent-based modeling and simulation • Ability to work independently and with good collaboration skills • Previous experience collaborating with industrial partners • Experience in scientific publishing within machine learning and artificial intelligence Meritorious: • Skills in programming languages such as Python • Experience with data analysis and visualization techniques • Ability to conduct independent research and work in teams • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English • Experience with Federated Learning (FL) • Experience with Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) • Experience in the energy sector, particularly district heating • Experience analyzing time series data • Demonstrated pedagogical skills • Higher education pedagogical training of at least 10 weeks full-time studies (15 credits), or equivalent knowledge acquired otherwise Great importance will be placed on personal suitability and ability to collaborate within a project group.
