About this role

University of Gothenburg addresses societal challenges with versatile knowledge. With 58,000 students and 6,800 employees, the university is a large and inspiring workplace. Strong research and attractive educational programs attract researchers and students from around the world. Through new knowledge and perspectives, the University of Gothenburg contributes to a better future. The Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology conducts high-quality research and education in chemical sciences and molecular life sciences. Our research and education focus on a deep understanding of chemical and biological processes in cells and the environment. We are responsible for doctoral education in Natural Sciences with specialization in chemistry, biophysics, biology, and educational sciences. Additionally, the department hosts educational programs in molecular biology, biophysics, chemistry, organic chemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry, and pharmaceutical science. The department is an international environment with interdisciplinary collaborations in both research and education, and strongly contributes to the University of Gothenburg's top ranking in life sciences. The department's activities are conducted in Natrium, Medicinareberget in Gothenburg. Job Responsibilities The hired researcher will play an active and central role in driving and further developing the research group's experimental laser scanning microscopy activities, focusing on multiphoton microscopy combined with fluorescence lifetime imaging (MPM-FLIM). Work tasks primarily include experimental work with advanced optical and laser-based equipment, sample preparation, data analysis, documentation, and writing reports and scientific articles. The development work aims to deepen and further develop the group's research in MPM-FLIM for application on biological samples based on autofluorescence. Special focus will be on programming and developing methods for data analysis. The goal is to integrate AI-based analytical methods as a central part of the research group's method development to improve image analysis, spectral separation, and pattern recognition in complex biological data. The researcher is also expected to take an active role in compiling and publishing research results and contribute to supervising thesis and doctoral students. Qualifications Eligible for employment is someone with a Swedish doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree. Requirements for the position: • Doctoral degree in natural sciences, physical chemistry, or engineering, focused on biophysical or biomedical issues, obtained within the last five years. • Documented experience and scientific publications in reputable journals in the field, focusing on development and/or application of MPM-FLIM methodology or equivalent within the last five years. • Documented practical experience in experimental biomedical work, such as handling biological samples and/or cell culture. • Documented experience in data analysis and programming at a postdoctoral level, including image analysis and/or application of machine learning/AI. • Good ability to independently plan, conduct, and evaluate experimental research work. • Very good English skills, both spoken and written. Meritorious Education, Knowledge, and Experiences, Personal Qualities In selecting candidates, the following meritorious qualifications and personal qualities will be particularly considered and form the basis for ranking candidates.
