About this role

Are you eager to contribute to more equitable maternity care by providing support to pregnant women when needed? Can you envision yourself assisting new individuals in various locations throughout Greater Stockholm? If so, this could be the role for you! Mira is a non-profit organization that runs a project with cultural doulas across Greater Stockholm. The project aims to support foreign-born pregnant women who are new to Sweden and speak limited Swedish, in order to create more equitable care. The project is funded by the Health and Medical Care Administration in the Stockholm Region. A cultural doula provides non-Swedish speaking women with support before, during, and after childbirth in their own language. The doula meets with the mother/family for discussions during pregnancy, typically on two occasions. The doula supports families in various locations throughout Greater Stockholm. When labor begins, the woman contacts her doula, who then provides support during the delivery in collaboration with the medical staff. The doula stays with the family until the baby is born. The doula and the parents also meet after the birth for follow-up meetings and support. The doula can bridge the insecurity and lack of communication that often arises when the birthing woman does not speak Swedish and is unfamiliar with how maternity care works in Sweden. By building a relationship with the family and providing continuous support, the doula can create conditions for equitable care and a positive birthing experience. Training Cultural doulas must undergo a mandatory training program lasting 10 days. The main components of the training include: • Anatomy and physiology during pregnancy and childbirth • Normal childbirth and the transition after delivery • Providing support to a woman during labor • Breastfeeding and bonding • The organization and mission of the healthcare system in the Stockholm Region The workgroup meets regularly for further education. Applicant's Education and Experience: We are looking for women who are proficient in Albanian, Dari, Mongolian, Polish, Somali, Swahili, and Urdu. You should also have proficiency in Swedish and possess cultural competence from both your country of origin and Sweden. Experience with Swedish maternity care is an asset. Training for the position will take place on weekdays in early February 2026. Please note that this position is a needs-based employment. The level of employment will vary based on incoming assignments. A B driver's license is a merit.
