Swedish Armed Forces Seeks Future Defense Engineers Are you a trained civil engineer and want to contribute to the defense of Sweden and NATO? As a defense engineer, you will work on developing the Swedish Armed Forces' technical systems and make them available to our units. In the role of a defense engineer, you are the link between the military and the technical domains. Job Offering A defense engineer is an officer with a civil engineering degree. The Swedish Armed Forces are growing in both personnel and materiel, including many qualified material systems. In your role as a defense engineer, you contribute to ensuring our equipment meets the required standards, wherever and whenever needed. During your first years, you will serve at one of the Swedish Armed Forces' units and learn how our material systems are used and maintained. Over time, you will be given greater responsibility in various material projects and developed towards higher military ranks. You will gain in-depth and broad system knowledge of both equipment and the combat units' capabilities in the Swedish Armed Forces. After a few years, your workplace may be in one of the military staffs or a supporting agency. Work tasks vary greatly and may include material development and future studies related to equipment and technology. Qualifications • Completed civil engineering degree at the time of employment • Good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in Swedish and English • Class B driver's license • Completed military basic training of at least six months • Approved test results from the Swedish Armed Forces (tests are part of the recruitment process) Personal Characteristics You have high drive and problem-solving analytical skills. We seek someone who is structured and flexible, with the ability to work in a group and independently. The work requires endurance and the ability to handle both physical and psychological stress. Meritorious • Experience with the Swedish Armed Forces and good insight into what is expected of you in your upcoming role as an officer • Leadership experience from professional or volunteer work Defense Engineer Training You will initially be employed as an officer with cadet rank at the Swedish Armed Forces Technical School (FMTS). During officer training, you will be paid, and after graduation, you will be promoted to second lieutenant and defense engineer (Officer with Special Competence - OFSK). The training, a special officer education (SOFU), starts in week 34 at the Swedish Military Academy Karlberg. The total training period is two semesters. Salary You will receive a fixed salary at the time of employment and keep it until graduation. When placed in an entry-level position, the Swedish Armed Forces will use the recommended entry salary for civil engineers by the Swedish Association of Graduate Engineers.
