About this role
The Swedish Natural History Museum is a government agency with a mandate from the government to promote knowledge, research, and interest in our world. The agency is a prominent research institution and Sweden's largest museum. For over 200 years, the museum has collected objects and data and conducted research about life on Earth. The collections contain more than 11 million plants, animals, fungi, environmental samples, minerals, and fossils. All research and knowledge are shared in exhibitions, Cosmonova, and through activities at the museum and digitally.
WORK TASKS
This is a permanent 65% position. Your duties will include managing the pollen database system for the palynological laboratory and performing pollen analyses and developing forecasts based on pollen measurements during the pollen season.
When system development is ongoing for the palynological laboratory's IT environment, you will participate in the work together with consultants and museum experts. You may also be involved in other system development projects within the unit and department and, if necessary, perform other tasks as a senior assistant in the department.
A large part of the work during the pollen season involves microscope work identifying different pollen types, but you will also participate in emptying the pollen trap in Stockholm early mornings and preparing pollen samples. Work is primarily performed in the morning. Other tasks include managing logistical handling of incoming and outgoing shipments from the country's other measuring stations and administrative tasks such as registering pollen data.
QUALIFICATIONS
The position requires:
• College degree in computer science and biology (bioinformatics) or another field deemed relevant by the employer
• Knowledge and experience with programming languages Python, Django, and SQL, and version control program GIT
• Experience with database development and management
• Experience working with a pollen database
• Microscope skills
• Good ability to communicate in Swedish, both verbally and in writing
Additional merits include:
