About this role
Salem Municipality is a vibrant and safe place where nature and green areas are always close at hand. With over 17,000 residents and more than 1,000 businesses, Salem develops its municipal operations in close dialogue with its inhabitants.
The municipality has nearly 1,000 employees, and its operations are permeated by our core values of sustainability, security, and participation. We are proud that our operations often show very good results. Salem is a welcoming and inclusive municipality where everyone feels at home.
The Children and Youth Unit in Salem Municipality is an organization in transition and development. After the turn of the year, a reorganization will take place where open care and short-term interventions will become part of the unit. The work is based on the new Social Services Act's intentions, focusing on collaboration, early and accessible interventions, and children and young people's right to participation and safety.
As part of an important municipal initiative, Salem Municipality is establishing two new positions for preventive child and youth support workers. The assignment involves relationship-building and outreach work among children and young people aged 0-20 and their families – with a focus on strengthening safety and providing early support and guidance, in line with the new Social Services Act's intentions for early, coordinated, and preventive interventions.
Job Responsibilities:
As a child and youth support worker, you will work proactively, building relationships, and focusing on collaboration with the goal of strengthening safety, participation, and preventing risk behaviors. You will play a crucial role in the municipality's efforts to create a safe and meaningful existence for children and young people in Salem.
You will meet children and youth where they are – in schools, associations, youth centers, and local community settings – and build trustful relationships that make a difference. You will collaborate with preschools, schools, child healthcare centers, family centers, police, culture and leisure activities, and civil society. Part of the assignment involves developing and coordinating work within SSPF (School, Social Services, Police, and Leisure).
The work is varied and includes practical outreach interventions, counseling and support conversations, and strategic development work to create early and accessible support services for children, youth, and families.
Qualifications:
• Social work degree or other relevant higher education
• Experience working in individual and family care, focusing on children, youth, and families
• Experience collaborating across professional and organizational boundaries
Additional merits include:
• Experience with preventive work with children, youth, and families
• Experience with counseling, support, or treatment interventions for children, youth, and families
• Experience working with Signs of Safety, Risk and Protection Assessments (RBM), and parental support programs like ABC and Komet
Personal qualities we are seeking:
• Excellent ability to create trusting relationships with children, youth, and adults
• Confident and stable when meeting people in vulnerable situations
• Comfortable with independent work, taking initiative, and flexible in work approach
• Collaborative with strong communication skills
• Genuine commitment to developing work with children and youth in Salem
