About this role

Sundsvall Municipality is facing an important challenge – to activate its contingency plan and quickly secure transportation services for those with special needs. Our current provider has unexpectedly terminated their contract, which means we need to take over responsibility immediately. We are working intensively to transition in a safe and structured manner. At the same time, we are in the process of a new procurement to create a long-term and sustainable solution. We want all citizens to know that we are doing everything we can to manage the situation in the best possible way. We are seeking 20 employees for temporary positions in the Vehicle and Transport department. We are conducting ongoing recruitment for this process, which means that positions may be filled before the application deadline. The start date may change. JOB DESCRIPTION As a transportation driver, you will be responsible for safe and service-oriented transportation for passengers with special needs. You will drive specialized vehicles adapted for wheelchairs and other aids, and provide support during boarding and disembarking. The role means you will be the first point of contact for many passengers, making a professional and respectful approach crucial. Service and Interaction You create security and show respect in all encounters. Communication is adapted to individual needs, and the work requires patience, attentiveness, and the ability to engage with individuals with various disabilities. As a driver, you represent the organization and are its face to the public, which places high demands on friendliness and appropriate behavior. Safety You will follow routines for workplace safety and traffic safety, use technical aids such as lifts, ramps, or stair climbers when necessary, and work according to applicable laws and procurement requirements for transportation services. Working hours vary between day, evening, weekend, and sometimes on-call shifts depending on the needs of the operation. You will collaborate closely with traffic managers, colleagues, the dispatch center, and sometimes staff at residences or facilities. Main Responsibilities • Drive transportation services and wheelchair transport using specialized vehicles. • Assist passengers during boarding and disembarking, including handling aids. • Ensure proper securing of wheelchairs, seat belts, and other safety systems. • Transport passengers with various disabilities in a safe and respectful manner. • Collaborate with traffic management regarding routes, delays, and deviations. • Conduct daily checks of vehicles and safety equipment and document any faults. • Handle simple documentation related to trips, such as travel lists and fault reporting. • Work according to applicable laws, agreements, and internal guidelines. QUALIFICATIONS Mandatory Requirements • B driver's license. • Good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written. • Excellent driving experience and good local knowledge. • Good physical ability as the work can be ergonomically demanding (securing wheelchairs, handling ramps, aids, etc.). Desirable Qualifications • D driver's license and Certificate of Professional Competence (YKB). • Experience in passenger transport, transportation services, or special public transport. • Experience working with individuals with disabilities. • CPR training or other relevant safety training. Personal Attributes Required • Service-oriented and accommodating in all customer interactions. • Responsible, reliable, and structured. • Good teamwork skills and comfortable working independently. • Ability to handle stressful situations with calmness and professionalism. • Empathetic and understands the needs and circumstances of different passengers.
