About this role
Burlöv is an exciting municipality in the growth region between Malmö and Lund. We have a close organizational culture that enables and emphasizes collaboration, innovation, and sustainable working life. Together, we develop our operations and create value for our citizens.
Do you want to help build an attractive, accessible, sustainable, and safe Burlöv?
Burlöv is an educational municipality where we create good conditions for the future with creativity and joy for learning.
We collaborate closely with leading Swedish researchers on educational development in preschool, primary school, and adult education.
We are brave and test new innovative ideas such as VR in teaching. We think about movement in both new construction and outdoor environment development, and offer movement analysis to our staff.
We implement early interventions together with social services and have a joint mobile team to help students with problematic absenteeism.
We truly follow up on goal achievement and act on our results.
We are working to become proficient in trust-based leadership and have close leadership with few employees per manager.
The High School Unit in Burlöv Municipality is located in Tora Vega Folk High School's premises in Åkarp. Approximately 60 students are enrolled in either the Individual Alternative or Language Introduction programs. We are a relatively large staff group that tries to ensure all our students feel comfortable, are well, and achieve the individual goals we set together. This doesn't always mean obtaining one or more grades but can also involve taking an internship, daring to ride the bus independently, learning to read, etc. We want each student to grow and become better equipped for the future awaiting them after high school. Students are organized in groups of max 15, but often the groups are smaller to meet students' special support needs.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Our appreciated special education teacher (and her four-legged colleague) is now moving on to new challenges, and we are seeking an equally competent replacement!
As a special education teacher at the High School Unit, you have great freedom to develop in your assignment and shape it in consultation with school management and colleagues. You will be a sounding board for teaching colleagues and take an active part in the school's student health work.
In consultation with the deputy principal, you will lead meetings with the student health team and sometimes other staff. You will provide training sessions for colleagues when needed and be responsible for formulating and following up on action plans. You will also participate in teaching individual students or be responsible for a small group of students with special support needs. Mentoring one or a few students per academic year may be included.
Burlöv Municipality has a successful joint development work led by a conversation leader at each school. You will participate with your colleagues to further develop our operations each year. The focus is on each teacher developing their teaching under a joint municipal umbrella. You are an important part of the High School Unit's pedagogical development work and regularly discuss this with school management and lead teachers (also conversation leaders).
QUALIFICATIONS
You are passionate about students facing significant challenges in the Swedish school system and are creative and imaginative in thinking outside the box to find solutions for our students, who often have many negative experiences from the school world. You are extremely skilled at creating good relationships with both students and staff to build mutual trust. We believe you must have completed your special education training and have several years of professional experience.
You have a humble approach to your teaching colleagues' classroom challenges and are available as support when needed. You are not afraid to be a resource for a colleague, be a playground supervisor to build student relationships, or have complex and challenging conversations with guardians, colleagues, or external actors. Always with great respect and clear leadership.
We are seeking a colleague who will enjoy working in a relatively small operation, in a staff group of 15-20 employees. You will collaborate with eight teachers, a special education teacher, teaching assistants, counselor, school nurse, psychologist, two study and career counselors, a school secretary, study guides, deputy principal, and principal. The operation is organized together with Adult Education in Arlöv, so you should be comfortable taking occasional "consulting assignments" there when needed.
