About this role

Värmdö: The Meeting Place of the Archipelago Värmdö is the archipelago's meeting place with a unique combination of nature's serene beauty and a more urban lifestyle. Our mission is not one, but many: schools, properties, social services, harbors, healthcare, libraries, care services and more. We work to ensure that all Värmdö residents can live a rich and free life. We want to be those who enable the dream of a vibrant, secure environment for homes, families, and businesses. To fully succeed, we must have diverse and extensive competencies and work together toward a shared and trusting work culture, built on courageous, responsible employees who understand residents' needs and wishes. This is what we call One Värmdö, One Administration. Our Operations Are you ready to take on one of Värmdö's most exciting challenges - accessibility and mobility? Värmdö's road network is vulnerable and faces significant challenges. The municipality's geographic structure means many areas are only accessible via a single road, which means accidents or disruptions quickly create queues and impact traffic throughout the system. Infrastructure development has not kept pace with the municipality's growth, and several parts of the road network have bottlenecks where accessibility is challenging during certain times of the day. To address these challenges, the municipality is now making a major investment in traffic issues, creating several new positions to ensure important traffic matters are translated into practical actions. This is a high-priority political area with significant expectations for results and progress, making a difference for Värmdö's residents, businesses, and visitors. As Traffic Unit Manager, you will play a central role in this initiative. Role and Mission As Traffic Unit Manager, you have overall responsibility for leading and developing the municipality's traffic and mobility work. Your assignment includes strategic planning, operational work, and leadership of a unit with 6 employees. The role combines short-term measures to improve accessibility with long-term strategies for a sustainable and resilient transportation system. You are expected to be a driving and results-oriented leader who takes initiative, drives development, and delivers results even under pressure. Tasks and Responsibilities • Lead and develop the municipality's traffic and mobility strategies • Develop routines and effective working methods for the unit • Coordinate and lead work within the organization to ensure goal achievement • Drive strategic traffic assignments and projects focusing on solutions, both short and long-term • Follow up and evaluate traffic measures and plans in accordance with the municipality's overall goals • Represent the municipality in internal and external contexts with politicians, Swedish Transport Administration, Traffic Administration, Nobina, and others • Build networks and relationships with other offices, politics, and external parties at municipal, regional, and national levels • Responsible for budget, personnel, and work environment • Combine strategic leadership with the ability to take operational initiatives when needed to create progress Competencies We are seeking someone with a relevant academic degree in urban planning, traffic planning, infrastructure, or equivalent. Alternatively, you have another university education combined with extensive experience in traffic planning. You have experience leading and coordinating complex traffic and infrastructure-oriented projects and a good understanding of how different road managers - state, municipality, region, and private actors - collaborate. Furthermore, you have deep competence and confidence in traffic issues and an analytical ability to see connections, draw independent conclusions, and identify solutions. With a strategic outlook, courage, and drive, you can advance development from analysis to concrete actions and results. You have an interest in sustainable mobility, innovative traffic solutions, and can analyze how new technology can contribute to a more resilient transportation system. You lead with an open, transparent, and clear leadership style that creates conditions and participation. As a person, you are confident, communicative, thrive in an environment with many contact surfaces, and can navigate a politically governed organization. Experience working in a municipality, with the Swedish Transport Administration and the Region, and previous experience leading employees is meritorious. Application Welcome with your application no later than November 24, 2025. Selection and interviews will be conducted continuously during the application period.
