About this role
Now we're looking for you who, together with us, want to make a difference for those we serve! Växjö Municipality is Kronoberg's largest employer, working every day, year-round, for our residents, businesses, and visitors. Together, we create a sustainable tomorrow and an attractive municipality to live, work, and thrive in – today and in the future. This means working where we challenge ourselves to think innovatively, learn, and develop together. Do you want to be part of something big where you can truly make a difference? Welcome to Växjö Municipality!
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
We are now seeking a Unit Manager for the Park Operations and Maintenance Unit, which is part of the Operations and Management Department within the Community Development Administration. The department consists of four operations and maintenance units (street, park, machinery, and nature & recreation), a planning and management unit, and a vehicle, storage, and workshop unit.
We offer you a challenging, enjoyable, and engaging job with good development opportunities where you can make your mark on the organization. The department has recently been reorganized, and we want to leverage your experiences and skills so that we can best contribute to creating the future's vibrant city, towns, and countryside.
As Unit Manager, you will be responsible for the unit's operations, personnel, and finances. The unit consists of approximately 20-25 people with various competencies, including park employees, greenhouse staff, and coordinators.
The Park Operations and Maintenance Unit manages and is responsible for green spaces in Växjö city, as well as areas and equipment for play, movement, and recreation. The unit manages and develops the municipality's park and park forest environments and grows the municipality's seasonal plants in its own greenhouse. Your tasks include planning, follow-up, and development of operations and budget, as well as workplace environment responsibilities. You will monitor the external environment, regulations, and new guidelines that control and impact the organization. As Unit Manager, you will be part of the department's management team. The work includes contacts with the municipality's residents, businesses, and organizations, as well as within our internal organization.
Various forms of standby duty are present within the operations.
QUALIFICATIONS
You should have a university degree or other education that the employer deems relevant to the organization, with good knowledge and experience in managing environments – preferably park management and management of other green public spaces. The position requires several years of experience in leading, following up, and developing employees.
To succeed as Unit Manager, you need to have strong communication skills. For us, this means being able to listen and understand on one hand, and clearly and simply convey information, keep others informed, and provide specific and constructive feedback on the other.
We are looking for someone who is goal-focused, curious, and structured, with the ability to notice/anticipate problems and find effective solutions. You understand organizational strategies and priorities and apply this knowledge to achieve goals.
As Unit Manager, you have the ability to build and maintain good relationships. Collaboration is important, both internally and externally. It is therefore crucial that you approach new challenges and conditions with a positive attitude. You take initiative and drive work forward towards the unit's goals, coordinating resources accordingly.
You need to be able to express yourself well in Swedish, both verbally and in writing. A manual transmission driver's license (B-license) is required.
In this recruitment, we will use tests for selection. Candidates who are deemed to best meet the job requirements will be invited to complete tests via email.
We apply ongoing, initial interviews. Final interviews are scheduled for the morning of December 11th.
