About this role
Sundsvall Municipality is one of Northern Sweden's largest employers with around 8,000 employees and over 300 different professions. Together, we fulfill one of society's most important missions – creating value and benefit for residents, businesses, and future generations. Regardless of our specific area of work, we all strive towards the same goal: to create an excellent place to live, thrive, and operate.
We are currently in an exciting development phase. The transformation work related to the new Social Services Act, which took effect on July 1, 2025, is ongoing, with a focus on creating a more preventive, accessible, equal, and knowledge-based service. We are pioneers in digital development and artificial intelligence, leading the work to create smart solutions for the public sector of the future.
We are now seeking a Unit Manager for Intake and Social Emergency Services within the Children, Youth, and Family area – a central role where you will lead an engaged team of employees and develop the crucial front-line work in social services.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The Intake unit is the social services' first point of contact, where the initial meeting with children, youth, and families in need of support or protection takes place.
The intake group consists of 13 social workers who receive and assess reports, forward applications, and provide information about social services' interventions. The group also staffs the municipal social emergency services, which involves work during evenings, weekends, and nights according to a schedule.
The unit also includes SSPF coordinators who work closely with schools, police, and leisure services to prevent children and youth from entering criminality or substance abuse.
As Unit Manager, you will lead both strategic and operational work and contribute to developing and strengthening the social services' intake function in Sundsvall.
In the role of Unit Manager, you will have responsibility for operations, personnel, and finances, as well as workplace environment, information, and communication.
You will lead, distribute, and develop work within the unit, focusing on quality, legal certainty, and the best interests of the child.
The role includes:
• Leading an engaged team and ensuring professional and legally secure intake work
• Coordinating and developing the operation in line with the new Social Services Act's intentions
• Strategically working with quality and development issues
• Closely collaborating with other unit managers and operations within Children, Youth, and Family to create good flows and comprehensive support for children and families
• Representing social services in collaboration with internal and external actors
QUALIFICATIONS
We are seeking someone who:
• Has a social work degree
• Has many years of experience working in municipal social services
• Can lead and engage employees
• Is goal and results-oriented, persistent, and confident in their professional role
• Thrives in an environment with a high degree of collaboration, both internally and externally
It is meritorious if you have:
• Experience in a leadership role
• Advanced training in a relevant area

To succeed in the role, we see that you have:
• Collaboration skills and a sensitive approach in dialogue with others
• Personal maturity and ability to handle complex situations
• Flexibility and a solution-focused approach
• Communication skills and a structured work method
Additional requirements include: Driver's license B, good ability to express yourself in Swedish verbally and in writing, good knowledge of the Office package.
We offer a meaningful assignment in a service that makes a difference every day. You will become part of an engaged leadership team where we collaborate, support, and develop each other.
We provide a workplace with significant room for development, clear leadership support, and the opportunity to influence how future social services in Sundsvall will be shaped.
We promote a drug-free work environment and drug testing may occur during new employment. We apply smoke-free working hours.
In Sundsvall Municipality, we appreciate diversity and welcome employees with different backgrounds. We value the importance of balanced gender representation and diversity in our operations and work to make our workplaces accessible to everyone.
