At the Migration Agency, we are working on one of the major societal issues of our time – migration. In total, we are around 6,000 people here, and we have an unusually important job!
Do you want to contribute to a long-term sustainable society by developing an organization that takes responsibility – environmentally, socially, and economically? We are now looking for a unit manager for sustainability issues who wants to lead and further develop our work in integrating sustainability dimensions across the entire organization.
About the role
The Migration Agency is currently undertaking an initiative to develop both the organization and governance throughout our operations. Our operational management organization is responsible for our main processes where sustainability issues need to be more clearly integrated. Part of this work involves establishing a new unit where several of these issues will be consolidated.
As a unit manager, you will have the opportunity to shape and drive the Migration Agency's sustainability efforts within our organization. In recent years, economic sustainability has been the focus. Together with your team members, experts in social and environmental sustainability, and employees in other areas of the organization working on economic sustainability, you will contribute to developing processes, methods, and working approaches that facilitate the entire agency taking practical responsibility for sustainability.
It is now time for the next step in creating a greater coherence in the area of sustainability. This work will involve dialogue with various management groups and process networks within the agency to create coherence and integration in the agency’s processes.
The unit currently consists of a number of committed employees, and you will be an important player in the section management group. You will have full responsibility for personnel, budget, and working environment, and you will lead your staff by being present, supportive, and decisive. Together with your colleagues, you will identify areas for improvement, create structure and conditions for participation, and drive a culture of accountability and development. Your leadership is characterized by a clear direction, empathy in interactions with others, and courage in decision-making.
In our work as civil servants, high demands are also placed on sound judgment and a high awareness of security and confidentiality.
Your responsibilities include, among others:
- Developing and implementing sustainability strategies and goals.
- Ensuring compliance with environmental legislation and other sustainability-related requirements.
- Monitoring and reporting on the organization’s environmental and sustainability results.
- Initiating and driving development efforts that promote circular economy and resource efficiency.
- Strengthening internal and external collaboration and contributing to increased knowledge and engagement in sustainability issues.
- Leading the unit’s work with responsibility for personnel, budget, and operational planning.
Your qualities
We are looking for someone who is self-sufficient and flexible, has good collaboration skills, and pedagogical insight. You have a natural holistic view and thrive on leading through dialogue and participation. You are inspired by translating strategies into concrete actions and contributing to societal benefit through professional sustainability work.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has an academic background with a focus on sustainability, environment, social development, or other education combined with experience deemed equivalent.
- Has documented experience in leading and developing organizations in change.
- Has current managerial experience with responsibility for operations, employees, work environment, and budget.
- Has worked with sustainability issues – both strategically and operationally.
- Has good communication skills and finds it easy to build trusting collaborations.
- Has very good proficiency in Swedish and English, both spoken and written.
- Is a Swedish citizen.
It is advantageous if you have:
- Leadership experience within the public sector.
- Experience working with sustainability issues in larger organizations.
- Experience leading remotely.
We place great emphasis on personal suitability.
A security clearance with a background check according to the Security Protection Act (2018:585) will be conducted. Therefore, Swedish citizenship is required. Employment is contingent upon a successful security clearance.
If you are ready to take on a strategic role in an organization that values collaboration, innovation, and diversity, then this is the right opportunity for you. We welcome your application!
