About this role
State Institutional Care (SiS) is a government agency responsible for individually tailored compulsory care for youth with complex psychosocial issues and adults with substance abuse. SiS also executes closed youth care. We do this at youth homes and facilities for adults with substance abuse across the country. At SiS, your work life becomes an exciting challenge. Regardless of where in our organization you work or what position you hold, you help create vital change.
SiS Youth Home Brättegården is located just outside Vänersborg. We receive non-school-age girls with psychosocial problems, mental health issues, criminal behavior, and substance abuse.
Job Description
SiS is in the midst of comprehensive changes, developing operations on multiple levels simultaneously. We improve and adapt our work based on new and changing needs in both society and our own organization. We know that developing and committed managers are crucial for meeting current and future assignments.
As Unit Manager, you have operational, personnel, and budget responsibilities. You lead, plan, and follow up work in your department, ensuring compliance with guidelines and laws governing the operation, and that methods are used and followed.
The department you lead has a substance abuse focus, targeting youth aged 16-20 who are under care according to Section 3 of the LVU (Care of Young Persons Act).
Each department has a team consisting of you as Unit Manager, a group leader, and a treatment secretary. The group leader's primary task is to plan, coordinate, and operationally lead and distribute daily work. The treatment secretary coordinates and plans care and treatment for the girls living in the department. The department team works closely together, leading the department based on different areas of responsibility, with you as Unit Manager holding ultimate treatment responsibility for the young residents.
You will be part of the institution's management group, where you collaborate with the institution chief and fellow managers to take collective responsibility for the entire operation.
Qualifications
We are seeking candidates who have:
• Academic degree of at least 180 ECTS credits in social sciences, care, behavioral sciences, or other relevant academic degree
• Several years of experience working in facilities focused on care, treatment, and security, such as social services, care and treatment, correctional services, or other relevant sectors
• Documented management experience with operational, budget, and personnel responsibilities
• Strong communication skills creating dialogue, participation, and engagement
• Ability to express yourself well, verbally and in writing, in Swedish
• Class B driver's license
Additional merits:
• Experience with administrative authority

Personal Qualities:
As the operation is often event-driven, you must be comfortable making decisions, reprioritizing, and quickly changing pace and direction. You remain calm and professional in challenging situations and can adapt to changing circumstances.
Simultaneously, high demands are placed on your ability to maintain an overall perspective and work systematically to ensure care quality based on the agency's goals, guidelines, values, and applicable laws.
To suit the role, we seek someone who takes responsibility for the whole, realizes SiS's vision and goals, creates conditions for good results, and addresses challenges courageously when needed. You should be a good role model, show trust in colleagues' competence, encourage development and personal responsibility, involve employees in development work, and create conditions for active employee participation and a learning organization. You promote good collaboration within SiS and with other partners.
At SiS, we care about good leadership. This means taking responsibility for the whole, acting as a good example, driving development, promoting good collaboration, and being clear in communication.
We place great importance on personal qualities.
