Engineering Manager – Developer Platform

We are seeking an Engineering Manager for our Developer Platform who wants to be part of driving future sustainable travel. With us, you will lead an engaged tech team and help shape digital solutions that make a difference – for both travelers and society. You are passionate about developer productivity and making the difficult easy and the simple scalable. Your upcoming role in Platform currently consists of several teams focusing on developer platform, cloud infrastructure, and operational solutions. We work product-oriented to create self-service services that make it easy for our developers to build, deploy, and monitor systems – quickly, simply, securely, and with high quality. Our solutions are built on Azure, Kubernetes, ArgoCD, Terraform, GitHub, Backstage, and Grafana. The goal is to create a modern, operationally secure, and efficient platform where developers can focus more on innovation than infrastructure. As Engineering Manager, you are a central person in further developing our engineering culture. You are responsible for leading teams with broad expertise in development, cloud, and platforms, who together develop and manage some of SJ's most critical solutions. You will: • Lead, motivate, and develop a team that owns and further develops SJ's internal developer platform through clear communication and goal-oriented management. • Ensure the team's delivery capacity and that our technical solutions are robust, future-proof, and business-aligned. • Develop and refine our solutions for developer productivity, automation, observability, and self-service with Azure, Backstage, Grafana, ArgoCD, and Terraform. • Drive both technical strategy and product management for the platform together with other leaders – balancing vision and delivery, long-term perspective and pace. • Contribute to architectural choices, technical decisions, and strategic development of our shared platform. • Work actively with continuous improvements, security, quality, and technical debt management. Expectations for the candidate We are looking for someone with a technical background who thrives in a leadership role. You understand the importance of reliable systems in a societally critical operation and are driven to create structure and direction in a technically complex environment. You are a technical leader with a developer background and know how good platforms and well-functioning teams are built. You combine deep technical understanding with the ability to create direction, focus, and value. We would like you to have: • Experience leading software teams with responsibility for delivery and employees. • Experience building platforms and a passion for developer experience, DevOps, and making complex things simple for developers. • Deep and broad expertise in Azure, Kubernetes, and Infrastructure as Code with Terraform or Bicep. • Previous hands-on experience as a developer, preferably in Java, Go, or TypeScript. • Experience with Backstage or similar developer portal solutions. • Ability to translate strategy into clear priorities and create focus in complex environments. • An empathetic and clear leadership that creates safety, accountability, and high performance. • Experience with personnel management and budget work. • Academic education at college/university or equivalent experience.
