About this role

Job Description As Engineering Manager, you will lead engineers in an engineering area and have formal staff responsibility for several Engineering talents. You are responsible for building a strong engineering culture by designing a Community of Practices for your area and enabling and securing strong organizational health by ensuring that you plan for both deliveries as well as competence development. Within your area, you will be responsible for recruiting, staffing, and retaining talents including maintaining a healthy mix of consultants and employees in appropriate tech locations. As Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring that the team can staff initiatives efficiently according to set goals – with a healthy work/life balance. The Engineering Manager will play a pivotal role in driving the tech landscape by aligning top talent to help our product team achieve their business objectives through exceptional quality and delivery of products. WHAT YOU'LL DO: • Act as the employer's extended arm to follow and implement H&M Group's vision, goal, strategies, values, policies, and processes, and serve as an ambassador representing management internally and externally. • Lead and steer an area with Software Engineers for a set of technology, software, or platform development. • Support your organization's employee development. • Set objectives and inspire team members based on specific competence needs. • Conduct performance management and salary reviews. • Stay compliant with laws and policies, and act when necessary regarding underperformance, work environment, rehabilitation cases, etc. • Recognize progress towards ambition, goals, and required growth. • Manage budget responsibility for FTE & FTC budgets. • Build strong organizational health, role & competence development. • Develop recruitment and retention strategies for talents. • Establish continuous learning & development activities within your area and contribute to an outside-in vision for competence development. • Manage stakeholder relationships. • Ensure teams have a healthy mix of consultants and employees in appropriate tech locations. YOU HAVE: • 10+ years as a technology leader using and implementing modern technology in complex organizations at scale. • Experience in front-end development. • 2+ years of experience managing a team of Software engineers. • Excellent stakeholder management skills and cross-business unit collaboration. • Interest in developing people and building an extraordinary engineering culture. • Sound financial and forecasting skills with experience handling resource allocation budgets. • Proven experience in building successful communities of practice. • Ability to cultivate trust and empower others to take responsibilities, dare to fail, learn, and grow. • Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and communication skills. • Ability and credibility to lead and guide both in-house and third-party teams. • Outstanding troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving abilities. Functional Knowledge: • Strong leadership skills. • Senior formal manager/staff responsible skills (including recruitment, performance development, career planning). • Workforce planning. • Budgeting and forecasting. • Agentic AI, Gen AI, successful implementation of AI in automation and engineering efficiency. • Cloud and future-proof web application architecture. • Technology development & lifecycles. • Agile and DevOps practices. • Enterprise Architecture concepts. • Cybersecurity and privacy concepts, principles & solutions.
