About this role
Do you want to make a difference for students with intellectual disabilities? At Vallastaden's adapted primary school, you will work in an inspiring environment where we collaboratively create security, structure, and joy in education. Here, you have the opportunity to contribute to each student's development and be an important part of their everyday life.
Your responsibilities
At the adapted primary school, students with intellectual disabilities, often in combination with multiple disabilities (such as neurodevelopmental disorders or physical movement limitations), attend classes. Our students study subjects and/or subject areas, and the education is tailored to each student's capabilities.
The position of teaching assistant in the adapted primary school involves supporting students with practical challenges during the school day and being present to assist during lessons. Together with the class team and workgroup, you plan, implement, and document the pedagogical work in the adapted primary school. You will closely collaborate with teachers and other teaching assistants.
As a teaching assistant, you are expected to create conditions for students to develop their abilities based on their individual circumstances, both in learning and social contexts. This means that during lessons, you clarify the teacher's instructions using AAC (alternative and augmentative communication). You provide support with practical challenges throughout the school day, which includes care assistance during toilet visits, diaper changes, and position changes. You will also be involved during breaks and create opportunities for all students to participate in shared activities. The role requires that you can assist with lifting and are able to walk and stand for extended periods.
Your workplace
Vallastaden's adapted primary school is an inspiring and development-driven workplace located in scenic surroundings. Here, we work in modern and stimulating learning environments, both indoors and outdoors, with ample space for activities. The organization has a strong focus on collaboration and communication, and you will be part of a professional and dedicated faculty that strives for continuous development and high-quality education.
The adapted primary school at Vallastaden has approximately 60-70 students and offers instruction in subjects and subject areas, as well as a leisure home. All our students have intellectual disabilities, and many also have other disabilities. Several communicate using AAC or other individual communication methods. Our approach is characterized by close collaboration among teachers, with security, structure, and relationship-building at the center to create a meaningful and accessible learning environment for every student. It is important for us to always meet the students positively and with a low-arousal approach.
Who you are
It is a requirement that you have completed a secondary or adult education. Relevant qualifications for the role, such as caregiver, teaching assistant, childcare worker, or in child and leisure education are advantageous.
We prefer that you have experience working as a teaching assistant in an adapted primary school (formerly known as special needs school) or in another curriculum-driven environment. Alternatively, you may have other experience that the employer considers equivalent. Experience working within adapted primary education or LSS is advantageous, as is knowledge of AAC.
You possess good communication skills in both spoken and written Swedish. This is essential as you will be responsible for organizing and implementing work according to the curriculum (Lgr22) so that each student receives support in their language and communication development, and to ensure that every student can use the Swedish language in a rich and nuanced manner.
You must be flexible and able to adapt to changing circumstances and various student needs, as well as handle stressful situations calmly and steadily. The work is conducted in close collaboration with team colleagues, which means you should enjoy working well in a team and be responsive, communicative, and flexible in interactions with colleagues.
In your role as a teaching assistant, you are aware of the goals and quality standards for the organization. You have a good understanding of human differences and relate to them in a sensitive and adaptive manner within your teaching. You establish good relationships and collaborate effectively with others in your professional role. You lead the work with the children through motivation, engagement, and participation. You also contribute to the students' learning by bringing enthusiasm, energy, and joy to the work.
In this recruitment process, we utilize testing as part of the selection.
