Your role with us
As a student assistant, you will work to help and stimulate students in need of special support for learning, development, and independence, both individually and in groups, using a low-arousal approach. Your work includes creating a safe environment and framework for the students, focusing on studies and the conditions for developing collaborations and relationships in school.
The work is carried out on behalf of the responsible teacher based on the current curriculum. You will support students throughout the school day, both in the classroom and during breaks, in meal and hygiene situations, as well as in other activities.
The role of a student assistant requires constant attention, analysis, and understanding of situations both in and out of the classroom. In close collaboration with teachers and other student assistants, you will strive to find individual solutions so that each student can benefit from the teaching in the best possible way. Understanding each other's professional roles is of utmost importance.
Contact and collaboration with guardians is an important part of the job, as well as actively contributing to the development of the workplace and taking responsibility for your own personal professional development. The work can be physically demanding and mentally challenging.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for someone with one of the following qualifications:
• A high school diploma from the Child and Recreation program with a focus on educational and social work
• A recognized qualification from the vocational package for Student Assistants within adult education or equivalent training for student assistants in folk high schools
• A degree/approval from equivalent training that the employer assesses as sufficiently comprehensive in pedagogy and child development and learning.
• Meets parts of the educational requirements and has at least three years of experience working as a student assistant
You need to have documented experience working as a student assistant. Experience working with individuals with disabilities is also a requirement. We want you to have good pedagogical skills and an understanding of the role of a student assistant. Familiarity with the curriculum is an advantage. You need to be able to choose methods within the pedagogical approaches and techniques that the school employs, and we would like you to have knowledge of communication methods such as TAKK. We also want you to have the ability to inspire, motivate, and stimulate students in their development, as well as a good ability to engage with children (youth) of school age. You should have knowledge regarding challenging behavior as well as care and hygiene situations. Furthermore, you should be attentive to the needs of the students. You are a calm, patient, balanced, and stable person with a professional attitude who can handle situations that arise in a safe and composed manner. To succeed in your role as a student assistant, it is important that you can take responsibility, have empathetic abilities, and can collaborate. As the work can be physically demanding, you need to be in good physical condition. You must be able to swim. Being able to ride a bike is required, as well as having a B driver's license to accompany or drive students to various activities.
Experience in any of the following areas is advantageous:
• Transfer techniques (standing scales, lifts).
• Knowledge of managing conditions such as epilepsy, diabetes.
• Knowledge of hypersexual behavior.
• Knowledge of visual and hearing impairments.
• Knowledge of digital communication aids.
