About this role
Stockholm – our capital city with millions of dreams, expectations, and ambitions. We work for everyone living here today and in the future. We are now seeking you who want to think big, new, and differently with us – for the people of Stockholm.
Welcome to Midsommarkransen High School
We are now seeking a teaching assistant for a student with visual impairment who is enrolled in a national program.
The position is 75% employment.
Midsommarkransen High School is located in the heart of Midsommarkransen, within walking distance of Södermalm, and currently has approximately 800 students, with around 35 in our adapted gymnasium.
Most staff are teachers, but the school also employs caretakers, counselors, school nurses, special education teachers, career counselors, administrative staff, school librarians, and principals. The school has its own kitchen preparing delicious meals and a café.
Motivation, passion, and commitment are our key words for both students and adults. By leveraging the forces within our institution, we build a school where students and staff feel comfortable and develop. A school where everyone is seen and their competencies are utilized and developed.
Everyone Grows at MKGY
We want our school to be a learning organization based on scientific principles, where we grow as individuals through new knowledge and perspectives. Participation is important to us. We develop this school together, both staff and students. Therefore, your initiatives and commitment are crucial for Midsommarkransen High School's continued development.
Your Role
The work involves being a resource for a student with visual impairment. Audio description in both Swedish and English is a significant part of the assignment. You will also assist the student in managing technical equipment provided as support. Tasks include being a link between the student and teaching staff when needed. The role also includes guiding the student between lessons and breaks.
The work is largely guided by the teacher's planning, but you also need to be an independent person who can lead and distribute tasks for the student. The student requires support throughout the school day.
Your Competence and Experience
We are seeking someone who has:
- Experience as a teaching assistant/resource teacher or similar work supporting individuals with visual impairment/blindness.
- Knowledge of Braille and good technical ability to handle assistive devices and adapt materials.
- Excellent Swedish language skills.
As a person, you are flexible and adaptable to changing circumstances. The assignment requires you to be attentive to the student's needs. As you will interact with many different people daily, we seek someone who enjoys collaboration and building relationships with both students and colleagues.
You have a good understanding of how people acquire knowledge, recognize individual learning differences, and can adapt communication methods to the recipient.
We also seek someone with a strong ability to take responsibility and show initiative, both for personal tasks and the group's collective goals, and can identify what needs to be done – even outside your immediate responsibilities. You focus on the bigger picture and consider broader perspectives.
The City of Stockholm works with competency-based recruitment aimed at evaluating each person's skills and counteracting discrimination.
