About this role
Do you want to contribute to top-quality medical research?
Karolinska Institutet is one of the world's leading medical universities with the vision of making a significant contribution to improving people's health.
In Sweden, Karolinska Institutet accounts for the largest share of medical academic research and offers the widest range of medical education.
At the Department of Medicine, Solna, which is one of the largest clinical departments at Karolinska Institutet, we are currently seeking a staff member for the finance unit who will have the opportunity to work at the heart of research in close proximity to the state-of-the-art Karolinska University Hospital.
Your Role
We are now looking for an economist for a temporary position during 2026. As an economist, you will work closely with our researchers, as well as with colleagues in the finance unit, HR, and others within the department's central administration. The position is a finance role focused on accounting. The operations are complex, and your tasks will consist of a mix of both high and low-level responsibilities. Typically, you will handle ongoing bookkeeping, transfers, customer invoicing, manage contracts, calculations, and follow up on finances and projects within the assigned operations. You will be part of a team where everyone pitches in and helps each other, and of course, provide the support that the operations need; no two days are the same with us.
Who Are You?
The work is carried out in close collaboration with other staff members in the department, which is why it is important that you have good collaboration and service skills. Furthermore, it is essential that you can communicate well in both Swedish and English, both verbally and in writing. You should be proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel. Previous experience in accounting within the public sector or other government administration is certainly a plus. Additionally, we prefer that you have a university degree in finance with a focus on accounting or equivalent experience in bookkeeping. We place great emphasis on personal qualities in our assessment.
What Do We Offer?
A creative, international, and inspiring environment filled with expertise and curiosity. Karolinska Institutet is one of the world's leading medical universities. Our vision is to drive the development of knowledge about life and work towards better health for all. Here, we conduct successful medical research and offer the widest range of medical education in Sweden. As a university, Karolinska Institutet is a government authority, which means you will receive good benefits through our collective agreement. Employees at KI are also offered the opportunity for a flexible working approach. This means that if the operations you work in allow it, you can work part of your time remotely. You will also have free access to our modern wellness facilities, where trained staff are available.
Location
The position is located within the Department of Medicine, which consists of ten divisions, each comprising several research groups. The current position is situated within the central administration division, which currently has 29 future colleagues working in areas such as HR, finance, education, and communication. In the finance unit, we currently have 11 people who provide the best possible service to all department heads and group leaders every day. Through our versatility and broad expertise, we create the glue that holds all the divisions of the department together.
