Do you want to work in a technical environment where you can combine practical work with process monitoring and problem-solving? Then this could be the job for you!
The Most Important Job of the Future
We aim to lead the transition of our industry towards a sustainable future. Just as we want to change the world, we want to develop everyone who joins us on this journey, both personally and professionally. Do you want to help shape the future of the global mining and minerals industry?
The Special Products business area delivers services and products. This business area consists of five divisions focusing on industrial minerals, mining and construction services, mechanical services, drilling technology, and explosives.
In LuleÄ, LKAB Special Products is planning an industrial park for the extraction of critical minerals from what is currently mining waste from our iron ore production. We plan to produce rare earth metals used in electric vehicles and wind turbines, as well as phosphorus, which is an essential component in mineral fertilizers to ensure food on our tables. Collectively, this is crucial for our transition, electrification, and Europe's self-sufficiency.
We are now taking the next step in our investment in critical minerals by establishing a research and development center and a demonstration facility for the processing of phosphorus and rare earth metals in LuleÄ. The processing involves a hydrometallurgical process aimed at validating the ongoing work in the industrial park. Read more about the initiative here: Critical minerals - LKAB
Your Role
This is a unique opportunity to be part of a completely new project. Here, we work with future technologies to develop sustainable processes. As an operations operator, you will be involved from the start and contribute to installation, commissioning, and campaign operations. You will work both in the control room and on-site, focusing on keeping production running and creating a safe and organized workflow.
The work occurs in two phases:
- During campaigns, you will work shifts and solve problems in close collaboration with others on your shift.
- During maintenance, you will work daytime, performing tasks and analysis together with other staff.
Examples of tasks:
- Adjust process parameters and manage alarms as needed
- Conduct rounds and check equipment
- Report faults and take action during operational disturbances
- Prepare the facility for campaigns and maintenance
- Document and report after completed tasks
- Ensure order and cleanliness in the factory, including chemical handling
What You Bring
To thrive in this role, you need to be solution-oriented, collaborative, stress-resistant, and structured. This is a new facility, which means you need to be able to find solutions and handle the challenges that arise. Since we work in a research environment, flexibility and the willingness to make things work together with others are crucial. Campaigns can involve a fast pace and unexpected problems, which requires resilience to stress. At the same time, it is important that you follow instructions and manuals carefully, document status, and contribute to order and cleanliness from the office to the factory floor.
In addition, you have:
- A high school education or equivalent (required)
- Several years of experience as an operations operator or similar work in the process industry (required)
- Good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written (required)
- Experience in mechanical or electrical work is an advantage
