About this role

The Department of Education, Educational Sciences, and Sociology of Education (EDU) conducts research, doctoral education, undergraduate education, and commissioned training in pedagogy, didactics, and the sociology of education. At EDU, there are also several master's programs. EDU has approximately 250 employees, of which around 175 are teachers/researchers, 45 are doctoral students, and 30 are administrators. Pedagogy is a scientific discipline that generates knowledge about the processes, both formal and informal, through which individuals are shaped and transformed in various social, cultural, and institutional contexts, such as preschool, school, family, leisure, working life, and higher education. Pedagogy addresses various aspects of upbringing, education, learning, teaching, and their prerequisites and implementation. Questions raised include how and why different forms of values, knowledge, and skills arise, are maintained, and change within and between generations, groups, and individuals. The theme of the research project involves the admitted doctoral student examining the compensatory mission of preschools in Sweden. This includes the development and testing of tools to engage preschool-aged children in research. Within the framework of the research project, the focus is on: 1) Children's participation in activities to generate ideas for the compensatory efforts of preschools and 2) children's active participation in development work. Behavioral observations to study children's participation are included. Description of the position in pedagogy with a focus on the compensatory efforts of preschools For this doctoral position, which pertains to the later part of doctoral education in pedagogy, applications are particularly welcome that relate to the theme of the research project by addressing educational issues within the compensatory efforts of preschools with a focus on tools to engage preschool-aged children. As a doctoral student, you will be active in some of Uppsala University's research environments and research groups. The education for this doctoral position spans two years and is financed through employment as a doctoral student. The doctoral student is expected to pursue their doctoral education full-time. The doctoral work will be conducted within the research project "Counteracting Inequality in Health and Development by Improving the Compensatory Efforts of Child Health Care and Preschools." The doctoral student is expected to actively participate in activities at EDU and within the research project. To be eligible for doctoral education in pedagogy at Uppsala University, candidates must a) have completed a master's degree, b) have fulfilled course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 higher education credits are at an advanced level, and c) have passed courses totaling 90 higher education credits in pedagogy. Eligibility is also granted to those who have acquired equivalent knowledge through other means, either domestically or internationally. Specific eligibility for this position requires at least a licentiate degree in pedagogy.
