Project Description
Research Education Subject: Information and Communication Technology (INFTECH)
The doctoral candidate will contribute to groundbreaking research on silicon carbide (SiC) bipolar transistors (BJT) and IGBTs for next-generation power electronics applications.
These components are crucial for improving energy efficiency, performance, and reliability in industries such as renewable energy, electric vehicles, and industrial automation. The position involves manufacturing and characterization of new components at KTH's Electrum Laboratory (http://electrumlab.se/kthrise.aspx), focusing on semiconductor process technology to enhance component performance. The doctoral candidate will be part of an internationally recognized SiC research group (https://www.kth.se/ee/ees) and the EU project WBG Pilot Line (https://www.wbg-pilot-line.eu/).
Supervision: Prof. Per-Erik Hellström is proposed to supervise the doctoral candidate. Final decision will be made upon admission.

Admission Requirements
To be admitted to doctoral education (Chapter 7, Section 39 of the Higher Education Ordinance), the applicant must have basic eligibility:
- Completed an advanced-level degree, or
- Completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 credits at an advanced level, or
- Acquired equivalent knowledge in some other way, within or outside the country.

Selection
To succeed in your doctoral studies at KTH, you need to be goal-oriented and persistent in your work. When selecting candidates, the ability to:
- Work independently,
- Collaborate with others,
- Maintain a professional approach,
- Analyze and work with complex issues will be assessed.
- Experience with power components and semiconductor process technology is meritorious.
After meeting the eligibility requirements, significant importance will be placed on personal characteristics.

Information on Admission and Employment
Only those admitted to doctoral education can be employed as doctoral candidates. The total employment period cannot exceed four years of full-time doctoral education. An employed doctoral candidate can perform certain tasks in limited scope (maximum 20%) such as education and administration. A new doctoral employment is valid for a maximum of one year and can be renewed for up to two years at a time. For studies concluding with a licentiate degree, the total employment period cannot exceed two years of full-time doctoral education.
