We are currently seeking a PhD candidate in Infrastructure Informatics with a focus on data-driven analysis of transportation systems, specifically aimed at utilizing data from mobile networks to analyze and model travel patterns. **Your Responsibilities** As a PhD candidate, you will engage in your doctoral training and the associated research projects. Your work may also include teaching or participating in other departmental tasks, up to 20% of full-time. A PhD position involves both theoretical and practical work. As a PhD candidate, you will be trained in scientific methodology and research practices. This includes publishing your work in scientific articles and presenting at national and international conferences. You will also have the opportunity to deepen and broaden your knowledge through doctoral courses, experiencing the teaching role, and participating in other research projects. The field of study in Infrastructure Informatics addresses issues related to the planning, design, utilization, management, and analysis of infrastructure and systems for the transportation of people and goods, as well as telecommunications. The research project will analyze large amounts of data from mobile networks to develop new methods for detecting trips, modes of transport, and mobility patterns that can be used for planning or managing transportation systems. The project focuses on methods within machine learning tailored for large-scale mobility data and will be conducted in close collaboration with problem owners, data providers, and other researchers in the field. **Your Qualifications** You have completed a master's degree in transportation systems, electrical engineering, or computer science, or have finished courses totaling at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 credits are at the advanced level in relevant subjects, or have acquired equivalent knowledge through other means. You are expected to have a good ability to communicate both orally and in writing in Swedish and English. We are looking for someone who is proactive, takes responsibility for their tasks, and independently drives processes forward with great perseverance to achieve results. We also see that you have good collaborative skills, being attentive to your surroundings and communicating well. You are a problem solver and work well with complex issues, understand complicated written materials, and produce high-quality documents. Furthermore, you have a good understanding of numerical data and can solve numerical tasks quickly and easily. We want you to have: - Advanced education in transportation, electrical engineering, or computer science - Experience in programming with Python or Matlab - Experience working with machine learning It is advantageous if you have: - Experience with GIS tools - Experience in data-driven analysis of transportation systems Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities and suitability. **Your Workplace** You will belong to the Department of Technology and Natural Sciences (ITN), which is known for its activities in logistics, visualization, and organic electronics. We combine academic excellence with fruitful collaboration with the surrounding community. The position is part of the Division of Communication and Transportation Systems (KTS), which is one of the largest environments for research and education in the transportation field in the Nordic countries. The activities are conducted within the units of Traffic Systems, Quantitative Logistics, Air Logistics, Railways and Public Transport, Mobile Telecommunications, Construction Logistics, and Construction Technology. The research is primarily externally funded and carried out in close collaboration with industry, authorities, and society. In undergraduate education, we are responsible for six educational programs. Within the research area of Data-Driven Transport Analysis at the Traffic Systems unit, we work with data-driven analysis and modeling of traffic and transportation systems, focusing on large-scale mobility data, such as data from mobile networks or GPS-equipped vehicles. **About the Employment** Upon commencement of the position, you will be admitted to the doctoral program. Read more about the respective faculty's doctoral education here. The employment is fixed-term for normally four years full-time. Extension of the employment up to five years may occur based on the degree of teaching and departmental assignments. In special cases, further extension may be granted. You will initially be employed for one year, and thereafter the employment will be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time, based on the achieved study plan. Start date is by agreement. The position may be subject to security classification.
