PhD Subject: Computer Science
The advertised doctoral position is within an ambitious, 5-year Wallenberg Scholar project titled "Scalable and adaptive inferencing for democratizing AI".
In this 18 million SEK project, we aim to dramatically reduce the costs and power required to serve large language models like ChatGPT.

The work will primarily involve designing, implementing, and evaluating distributed systems and networks for machine learning inference. Application of machine learning concepts, with the goal of developing agentive frameworks, will also be part of the project.
Supervision: Professor Dejan Kostic and Senior Lecturer Marco Chiesa are proposed to supervise the doctoral student. The final decision will be made upon admission.

Admission Eligibility
To be admitted to doctoral studies (Chapter 7, Section 39 of the Higher Education Ordinance), the applicant must have basic eligibility:
- Completed a second-cycle degree, or
- Completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 credits at the second-cycle level, or
- Acquired equivalent knowledge in Sweden or abroad through other means.

Information on Admission and Employment
Only those admitted to doctoral studies can be employed as doctoral students. The total employment period cannot exceed four years of full-time doctoral education. An employed doctoral student can, to a limited extent (maximum 20%), perform certain tasks in areas such as education and administration. A new doctoral student position is valid for a maximum of one year and can subsequently be renewed for up to two years at a time. For studies to be concluded with a licentiate degree, the total employment period cannot exceed two years of full-time doctoral education.
