About this role

Project Description PhD Subject: Strength of Materials ENDURE is seeking a doctoral student for the project "Physical Modeling of Deformation and Damage in Fiber Networks during Cellulose Fiber Network Formation". The industry needs interdisciplinary engineers with expertise in natural fiber material technology, product design, production engineering, and digital manufacturing/Industry 4.0. The doctoral network https://cordis.europa.eu/project/id/101227649 is a new Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network consisting of 12 doctoral students, bringing together 5 universities, 2 research institutes, and 8 industrial partners from four countries. The project is funded by the EU's Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA). The doctoral student will be placed at KTH and industrial partner Yangi AB and will receive unique skills development to lead scientific and technical development. The project develops a numerical model for fiber network mechanics in cellulose fiber products. By studying fiber properties, process conditions, and geometry, tools for material design will be created. Supervision: Professor Sören Östlund is proposed to supervise the doctoral student. Final decision will be made upon admission. We Offer - The opportunity to https://www.kth.se/en/studies/phd. - A workplace with https://www.kth.se/om/work-at-kth/en-arbetsplats-med-manga-formaner-1.467932 and monthly salary according to https://intra.kth.se/anstallning/anstallningsvillkor/lon/doktorandstegen-1.572915 - Compensation – In addition to the base salary mentioned in the link above, a mobility allowance and potentially a family allowance are included in all positions within the Marie Curie program. https://marie-sklodowska-curie-actions.ec.europa.eu/actions/doctoral-networks. Base salary and additional compensation are stated before tax. - Opportunity to contribute to industrially relevant research questions. - Development of advanced computational and experimental skills. Admission Eligibility To be admitted to doctoral studies (Chapter 7, Section 39 of the Higher Education Ordinance), the applicant must have basic eligibility: - Mobility Rules – Candidates must not have been residing or had their primary activity (work, studies, etc.) in Sweden for more than 12 months during the 3 years immediately preceding the recruitment date. - Completed an advanced level degree, or - Completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 credits at an advanced level, or - Acquired substantially equivalent knowledge in Sweden or abroad through other means. In addition, there are https://www.kth.se/en/studies/phd/admission-requirements-1.520175. Selection To succeed in your doctoral studies at KTH, you need to be goal-oriented and persistent in your work. When selecting candidates, the ability to: - independently drive work forward, - collaborate with others, - maintain a professional approach, and - analyze and work with complex issues will be assessed. Meritorious Qualifications: - Knowledge of numerical methods (FEM) and programming (Python, Matlab, C++, Fortran) - Background in material mechanics or computational modeling - Interest in interdisciplinary collaboration and potential as a teaching and laboratory assistant After meeting the eligibility requirements, significant weight will be given to personal characteristics. Target Degree: Doctoral Degree Information on Admission and Employment Only those admitted to doctoral studies can be employed as doctoral students. The total employment period may not exceed four years of full-time doctoral education.
