Infection Medicine Research Group The research group is led by Johan Malmström, whose goal is to develop proteomics methods to promote the implementation of precision medicine in sepsis. The group consists of senior researchers, postdocs, and doctoral students with expertise in clinical medicine, cell and molecular biology, proteomics, and bioinformatics. Read more on the university's website about employment at Lund University, https://www.lu.se/om-universitetet/jobba-hos-oss Job Responsibilities The doctoral project will consist of three parts integrating detailed immunological insights with systems biology. Part 1: Evaluation of proteome changes caused by molecular substances to identify new drug candidates with potential for sepsis treatment. Part 2: Investigate changes in immune cell metabolic processes or immunological stimulations by examining temporal proteome changes during immune response. Part 3: Combine these insights with new methods for stratifying patient subgroups to promote the implementation of data-driven precision medicine in sepsis. Qualifications Required for the position: - Bachelor's and Master's degree in Biomedicine or equivalent - Documented experience in large-scale quantitative and functional proteomics - Experience in cell sample preparation for quantitative proteomics - Strong knowledge of quantitative proteomics data analysis in R and bioinformatics - Good knowledge of mitochondrial functions and cellular metabolism - Cell culture experience As a person, we seek someone who is ambitious and motivated with a strong desire to achieve research goals. Meritorious: - Experience in molecule screening in cell models - Bioinformatics focusing on pathway enrichment analyses (e.g., Metascape) - Understanding of sepsis disease progression - Understanding of drug development and repurposing strategies - Work with human blood - Previous experience with ELISA and Mesoscale - Good Swedish language skills, both oral and written, to interact with healthcare Eligibility Basic eligibility for doctoral-level education is granted to those who have: completed an advanced-level degree, fulfilled course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 credits are at an advanced level, or otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge domestically or internationally. Assessment Grounds Regulations for doctoral student employment are found in ordinance SFS 1998:80. Only those admitted to doctoral-level education can be appointed. When appointing, primary consideration will be given to the ability to benefit from doctoral education. In addition to pursuing their own doctoral education, the appointee may be required to complete service involving education, research, and administrative work according to specific provisions in the ordinance.
