About this role

We have the strength of over 40,000 students and employees. Students who provide hope for the future. Employees who contribute every day to Linköping University addressing contemporary challenges. Our values are based on credibility, trust, and security. By being courageous, thinking freely, and innovating, we create together, through both large and small actions, a better future. Welcome to apply for a job with us! **Your Responsibilities** An energy- and resource-efficient industry and housing and service sector are crucial for Sweden to remain competitive in the long term. As a PhD candidate, you will work on issues related to energy and installation technology in buildings and industries within two research projects. Installation technology is based on fundamental engineering areas such as energy, heating, cooling, and electrical engineering. As a PhD candidate, you will focus on questions regarding how the building functions in terms of climate technology, what factors determine the indoor environment of the building in use, and what requirements are placed on the technical solutions within a building. You will work on two main research areas: comfort cooling in the housing and service sector and industrial ventilation related to the automotive industry. As a PhD candidate, you will dedicate yourself to your doctoral education and the research projects you are part of. Your work may also include teaching or participating in other departmental assignments, up to 20 percent of full-time. **Your Qualifications** You have obtained a master's degree, having completed at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 credits are at the advanced level, or have acquired equivalent knowledge in another way. This degree should have a focus relevant to the doctoral subject area of energy systems (e.g., Energy Environment Management (EMM), Mechanical Engineering, Energy Technology, or another relevant educational profile). Knowledge in modeling, building simulation, CFD, or measurement technology is advantageous. You also have a genuine interest in energy issues in general and see this as an important part of the ongoing transition. Excellent proficiency in both Swedish and English is advantageous as you, as a PhD candidate, will need to use both languages in connection with data collection, documentation, and reporting of results. **Your Workplace** You will be part of the Department of Energy Systems at the Faculty of Economic and Industrial Development. Creating an inclusive research environment where employees have a high level of participation is important to us. The department has over 20 employees, including 8 PhD candidates, who conduct research and undergraduate education in energy systems. **About the Employment** Upon commencement of the position, you will be admitted to the doctoral program. Read more about the respective faculty's doctoral education here. The employment is time-limited to normally four years full-time. An extension of employment up to five years may occur based on the degree of teaching and departmental assignments. In special circumstances, further extension may be granted. You will initially be employed for one year, and thereafter the employment will be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time, based on the achieved study plan. A security check may be conducted before a decision on employment is made. Start date is February 1, 2026, or as agreed. **Salary and Benefits** The PhD salary is regulated based on a locally agreed salary scale. Read more about employee benefits here. **Union Contacts** For information about union contacts, see Help for Applicants. **Application** You apply for this position by clicking the "Apply" button below. Your application must be received by Linköping University no later than January 19, 2025. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.
