About this role

**Your Responsibilities** As a PhD candidate, you will be part of the research group in construction engineering. Your studies will encompass the areas of building physics, installation technology, indoor environment, energy production, energy distribution, energy use in buildings, as well as a specialization in energy calculation programs. In addition to your research studies, there may be opportunities for teaching in relevant areas or other institutional duties – up to 20% of full-time. If this occurs, the total duration of your research studies will be extended accordingly. You will be placed at the Department of Resource Recovery and Building Technology, with Kamran Rousta as your immediate supervisor. **Life as a PhD Candidate at the University of Borås** Research Area: Resource Recovery **Your Qualifications** Employment is contingent upon the applicant meeting the requirements and being accepted as a doctoral student, or already having been accepted. Admission is handled by the doctoral education committee for technology and natural sciences. To be accepted into the doctoral program in Resource Recovery, and for the position, you must have a master's degree with sufficient relevance to the doctoral subject of resource recovery, as well as a bachelor's degree in construction engineering, energy technology, or another related field. You should have documented knowledge in building physics, energy use, and thermal comfort. You must be able to communicate fluently in English and Swedish, both in writing and speaking, at least at the level of Swedish upper secondary school. The position also requires good collaboration and initiative skills, the ability to work independently and in a structured manner, as well as the ability to prioritize tasks. **Meritorious:** • Professional experience as a certified energy expert, energy auditor, or equivalent is highly meritorious, as well as knowledge of building energy performance with a focus on energy simulation. • The work will focus on energy renovation related to the new requirements for Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS), so experience in similar work is considered a strong merit. Language requirements in English can be demonstrated through TOEFL/IELTS or previous upper secondary or higher education studies. More information about approved English tests, previous studies, and necessary documents is provided by University Admissions in Sweden under information for master's level. **Your Employment** The PhD position corresponds to an employment of four years of full-time studies and is expected to lead to a doctoral degree. A new PhD employment is valid for a maximum of one year, and the employment can then be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time. Regulations regarding employment as a PhD candidate can be found in the Higher Education Ordinance (1993:100), Chapter 5, Sections 1-7. Start date: Earliest January 1, 2026. Location: Borås.
