Department of Clinical Sciences Are you ready to take responsibility for driving the operations unit of the Small Animal Department at UDS and, in a leadership role, develop our employees to their full potential together with a competent and vision-driven management team and faculty? About the Job Your main task will be to have operational responsibility for the operations department and, together with the staff, ensure efficient workflows and job satisfaction - this is of utmost importance for quality assurance of the basic education of veterinarians and veterinary nurses. You will have personnel responsibility for a group of employees whom you will coach daily with the goal of utilizing their potential and commitment. You will be part of the local operations group at UDS Small Animals. You will report to the department head who is ultimately responsible for the operations. In addition to your management position, you will work clinically in a varied daily environment in a 24/7 operation at Sweden's only university animal hospital. All employees in the small animal department work on on-call service agreements, which means work can be scheduled at any time of the day. We offer you leadership development through our management and leadership training at SLU, as well as pedagogical training. The management assignment is time-limited and runs until 2028-09-30, after which the new head of department will decide whether the assignment can be extended. Your Background You are a licensed veterinarian, licensed veterinary nurse, or animal caregiver • As a licensed veterinarian, you are authorized to practice veterinary medicine in Sweden. You have broad medical and surgical competence and therefore meet the need to work independently and supervise less experienced colleagues in emergency services. It is meritorious if you have Step 1 competence in dog and cat diseases, Step 2, or are a Diplomate. You have been clinically active for at least five years. • As a licensed veterinary nurse, you have solid experience in anesthesia and ICU. • As an animal caregiver, you have experience working in the operations department. Previous experience working at a 24/7 animal hospital is meritorious. You understand workflow and the importance of team management. Previous experience and formal training in leadership and other responsible roles are meritorious. Likewise, training in pedagogy. Since the position involves contact with employees, pet owners, and students, you need to have good knowledge of the Swedish language in both speech and writing. You easily see the broader context and are motivated to work towards set goals. You are a coaching leader who can easily create relationships based on respect and trust in the individual. You are inspired by improvement work and have a great interest in letting others grow in their roles. You have a basic understanding of economics. As a person, you are structured and have good self-awareness. You are communicative with a good ability to create and maintain good relationships with students, customers, and colleagues. You have great integrity, are professional as a leader, and a role model in the clinical environment. You take great and independent responsibility for your tasks but have the judgment to ask for help when you need it. You have a clear interest in developing both veterinary medically and as a leader. As animal health personnel at the university animal hospital, you have a scientific approach and interest in evidence-based care. You are interested in teaching and participating in creating good conditions for basic education and research.
